  1. 1. Stellar kinematics in surveys and simulations

    Författare :Daniel Mikkola; Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Galactic dynamics; stellar dynamics; simulations; Gaia; Galactic dynamics; Stellar kinematics; Numerical simulations; Statistical methods; Solar neighborhood;

    Sammanfattning : We study stellar motions in the Milky Way with N-body simulations and large astrometric samples from ESA's Gaia mission. We identify two kinematic populations for white dwarfs in the Solar neighbourhood. We also investigate the accreted halo and reveal two new structures. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Galactic Structure Revealed by Space Astrometry

    Författare :Johan Holmberg; Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astronomi; cosmic chemistry; Galactic structure; Milky Way Galaxy; Galactic kinematics and dynamics; Galactic chemical evolution; moving groups; solar neighbourhood; dark matter; astrometry; Hipparcos; space research; Astronomy; rymdvetenskap; kosmisk kemi; Space technology; Rymdteknik; Fysicumarkivet A:2001:Holmberg;

    Sammanfattning : This work demonstrates how the structure of our Galaxy, the Milky Way, can be unveiled with the use of space astrometry. It consists of two parts, of which the first is a brief introduction to the fields of Galactic structure, covering the Galaxy's stellar constituents, how the Galaxy was formed and how it has evolved over time, both chemically and kinematically. 3. 3. Molecular gas in the galaxy M83 : Its distribution, kinematics, and relation to star formation

    Författare :Andreas Andersson Lundgren; Hans Olofsson; John Whiteoak; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular gas; Galaxies; Galaxies individual: M83; Star formation; Galactic dynamics; Astronomy and astrophysics; Astronomi och astrofysik;

    Sammanfattning : The barred spiral galaxy M83 (NGC5236) has been observed in the 12CO J=1–0 and J=2–1 millimetre lines with the Swedish-ESO Submillimetre Telescope (SEST). The sizes of the CO maps are 100×100, and they cover the entire optical disk. The CO emission is strongly peaked toward the nucleus. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Exploring the nature of ISM turbulencein disc galaxies

    Författare :Timmy Ejdetjärn; Göran Östlin; Oscar Agertz; Garrelt Mellema; Troels Haugbølle; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; galaxies; galaxy; disc galaxy; star formation; ISM; interstellar medium; kinematics; dynamics; evolution; turbulence; numerical; Astronomy; astronomi; teoretisk astrofysik; Theoretical Astrophysics;

    Sammanfattning : Galaxy formation is a continuous process that started only a few hundred million yearsafter the Big Bang. The first galaxies were very volatile, with bursts of star formationand disorganised gas motions. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The nature of kinematic structures in the Galactic disc

    Författare :Iryna Kushniruk; Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Galaxy : evolution; Galaxy: structure; Galaxy : kinematics and dynamics;

    Sammanfattning : The velocity distribution of stars in the Galactic disc is complex and consists of a vast number of kinematic structures, that is, stars that share similar velocity components. The reasons why some stars move together may be different and are related to dynamical processes connected to the Galaxy, both internal as well as external ones, such as resonances with the Galactic bar or the Galactic spiral arm structure, dissolution of open clusters, or merger events with other galaxies.
