  1. 1. PTEN and Akt signalling in Alzheimer’s disease

    Författare :Annika Rickle; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :PTEN; Akt; GSK3beta; post-mortem brain; rat primary cortical neurons;

    Sammanfattning : Akt / protein kinase B is an important cell survival kinase that modulates the activity of a range of pro-apoptotic proteins. A major downstream target of Akt is glycogen synthase kinase-3beta (GSK3beta) that phosphorylates the microtubule-associated protein tau. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Gene regulation mechanisms by the transcriptional coregulator mastermind-like 1

    Författare :Mariana Saint Just Ribeiro; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Acetylation autoacetylation; chromatin; trnascription; coregulator; Mastermind-like 1 MAML1 ; p300; Notch signaling; phosphorylation; GSK3beta;

    Sammanfattning : MAML1 was first identified as a coactivator for Notch receptors, but later it was also found to function as a coactivator for several other activators, including p53, beta-catenin, and MEF2C. MAML1 is critical for Notch signalling and has been shown to act cooperatively with the histone acetyltransferase (HAT) p300 in transcription that is mediated by the Notch intracellular domain (Notch IC). 3. 3. Wnt signalling in the development of ventral midbrain dopaminergic neurons

    Författare :Gonçalo de Sá e Sousa de Castelo-Branco; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Dopaminergic Neuron; Ventral Midbrain Development; Writs; Dickkopf; beta-catenin; GSK-3beta; Stem Cells; Neural Precursors;

    Sammanfattning : Dopaminergic (DA) neurons in the ventral midbrain (VM) are one of the major cell types lost in Parkinson's disease (PD). Proof-of-principle exists for cell replacement therapies for PD, but wider application is halted by the unavailability of abundant sources of DA neurons. Stem cells might constitute one of these sources. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Characterization of hippocampal slice cultures as model systems for neurodegenerative processes in Alzheimer's disease

    Författare :Sara Johansson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia and a growing health care problem worldwide. The disease affects different brain regions, including hippocampus, enthorhinal cortex, amygdala, neocortex and certain basal forebrain nuclei. Macroscopically, shrinkage of gyri and widening of sulci characterize the AD brain. LÄS MER
