  1. 11. Identification, Characterization and Evolution of Membrane-bound Proteins

    Författare :Pär J. Höglund; Helgi B. Schiöth; Robert Fredriksson; Gert Vriend; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; G protein-coupled receptor; GPCR; Solute Carriers; SLC; Bioinformatics; Evolution; Rhodopsin; Adhesion; Phylogeny; Pharmacology; Farmakologi;

    Sammanfattning : Membrane proteins constitute approximately 30% of all genes in the human genome and two large families of membrane proteins are G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and Solute Carriers (SLCs) with about 800 and 380 human genes, respectively.In Papers I, II and IV, we report 16 novel human Adhesion GPCRs found by searches in NCBI and Celera databases. 2. 12. Functional Characterization of Centrally Expressed Solute Carriers and G Protein-Coupled Receptors

    Författare :Smitha Sreedharan; Helgi Schiöth; Robert Fredriksson; David Engblom; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; GPCR; SLC; Gpr153; Gpr162; Slc17; Slc38; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Transmembrane proteins are gatekeepers of the cells; controlling the transport of substrates as well as communicating signals among cells and between the organelles and cytosol. Solute carriers (SLC) and G protein-coupled receptors (GPCR) are the largest family of membrane transporters and membrane receptors respectively. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Computational prediction of ligand binding in peptide G-protein coupled receptors

    Författare :Silvana Vasile; Hugo Gutiérrez-de-Terán; Johan Åqvist; Herman Van Vlijmen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; GPCR; neuropeptide Y; angiotensin II receptor; molecular dynamics; free energy perturbation; homology modelling; computer simulations; peptide binding; peptidomimetics; binding free energy.;

    Sammanfattning : G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) are a superfamily of membrane receptors involved in a wide variety of biological processes, and their malfunction is associated with many diseases. Consequently, GPCRs are targeted by one-third of the drugs on the market, and constitute the focus of active public and private research in the search of more effective drugs. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Oxygen sensing in Caenorhabditis elegans

    Författare :Lina Zhao; Changchun Chen; Simon Tuck; Helena Edlund; Marc Pilon; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; C. elegans; acute hypoxia; G-protein; mitochondrial ROS; neuropeptide; GPCR;

    Sammanfattning : Sufficient supply of oxygen (O2) to tissue is essential for survival of aerobicanimals. In mammals, there are constant homeostatic regulation mechanisms that act on different time scales to maintain optimal O2 delivery to tissues. The ability to detect and respond to acute oxygen shortages is indispensable to aerobic life. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Estrogen and Serotonin – old dogs, new tricks, Implications for pancreatic beta-cell function

    Författare :Alexander Balhuizen; Celiaki och diabetes; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diabetes; Estrogen; Serotonin; Pancreatic islets; Insulin resistance; Beta-cell function; GPCR;

    Sammanfattning : Islet hormone secretion is tightly regulated by metabolic status as well as local and circulating factors. These factors can activate different receptors on the pancreatic islet cells, for instance G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs). LÄS MER
