  1. 1. Interleukin-6 as a mediator of insulin resistance

    Författare :Victoria Rotter Sopasakis; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : A potential role of interleukin (IL)-6 for the metabolic abnormalities seen in obesity and insulinresistance was postulated when it was discovered that circulating IL-6 levels were elevated in obeseand insulin-resistant as well as type 2 diabetic individuals. Later it was shown that the adipose tissuewas a major site of IL-6 production, accounting for 15-35% of the total circulating levels. LÄS MER

  2. 2. CADASIL : a pure model for studying cerebral small vessel disease

    Författare :Mahmod Panahi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarct and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL) is caused by a mutation on the NOTCH3 gene. The pathological driver behind this disease is the loss of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) in small blood vessels and subsequent fibrotic thickening of the vessel, causing stenosis. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Novel pharmaceutical approaches to regulate glucose homeostasis

    Författare :Maj Sundbom; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The Western sedentary life-style and calorie excess is causing an increased incidence of obesity and type 2 diabetes. When untreated, these diseases are associated with heart- and vascular disease, stroke, cancer, neuropathic pain, renal failure and infertility. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Placental transport of glucose and amino acids in early pregnancy. Cellular mechanisms, regulation and relation to diabetes

    Författare :Anette Ericsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :placental transport; diabetes; first trimester; GLUT; system A; hyperglycemia;

    Sammanfattning : Despite strict glycemic control of the pregnant woman with type 1 diabetes fetal overgrowth is still common. The first trimester is often characterized by sub-optimal glucose levels and elevated HbA1C in early pregnancy is a predictor of fetal overgrowth. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Interplay between hormones, nutrients and adipose depots in the regulation of insulin sensitivity : an experimental study in rat and human adipocytes

    Författare :Magdalena Lundgren; Jan Eriksson; Jonas Burén; Eva Degerman; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; adipose tissue; cAMP; glucocorticoids; glucose; insulin; insulin resistance; lipolysis; subcutaneous fat; type 2 diabetes; visceral fat; Medicine; Medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Obesity and specifically central obesity is related to insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and other components of the so-called metabolic syndrome. The aim of this study was to elucidate the interplay between hormones, nutrients and adipose depots in normal and insulin-resistant fat cell metabolism. LÄS MER
