  1. 1. Apolipoprotein A-I in glucose metabolism and amyloidosis

    Författare :Oktawia Nilsson; Medicinsk proteinvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Amyloidosis; Apolipoprotein A-I; beta cell; cardiovascular disease; cholesterol efflux; diabetes; glucose metabolism; glycation; high-density lipoprotein; insulin secretion;

    Sammanfattning : The role of Apolipoprotein A-I (ApoA-I), the main protein component of HDL, in cholesterol transport and metabolism is well known and has been studied for more than four decades. More recently, ApoA-I protein has been shown to also have a positive role in glucose control by both stimulation of glucose uptake by muscles and by increasing glucose-stimulated pancreatic insulin secretion. 2. 2. Glucose metabolism in patients with exocrine pancreatic adenocarcinoma

    Författare :Johan Permert; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :endocrine pancreatic function; euglycemic hyperinsulinemic clamp; exocrine pancreatic adenocarcinoma; glucose metabolism; glyccogen synthesis; hyperglycemic clamp; immunohistochemistry; insulin resistance; insulin secretion; in situ hybridization; islet amuyloid polypeptide IAPP ; radioimmunoassay; subtotal pancreatectomy; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Carc.inoma of the exocrine pancreas is the fifth leading cause of cancer death in the Western world and the survival rate is one of the lowest for cancers of any site. Pancreatic cancer is characterized by pronounced, early cachexia and frequent metabolic complications. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Chemical genetics discloses the importance of heme and glucose metabolism in Chlamydia trachomatis pathogenesis

    Författare :Patrik Engström; Sven Bergström; Ted Hackstadt; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Chlamydiae; heme metabolism; glucose metabolism; glucose-6-phosphate; RB-to-EB transition; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Chlamydiae are important human bacterial pathogens with an intracellular life cycle that consists of two distinct bacterial forms, an infectious form (EB) that infects the eukaryotic host cell, and a non-infectious form (RB) that allows intracellular proliferation. To be successful, chlamydiae need to alternate between EB and RB to generate infectious EB’s which are competent to infect new host cells. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Retinal glucose metabolism and blood flow : Effects of photic stimulation

    Författare :Lin Wang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology and anatomy; blood flow; darkness; flicker; glucose oxidation; glycolysis; lactate; light; nitric oxide; optic nerve; retina; Fysiologi och anatomi; Physiology and pharmacology; Fysiologi och farmakologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Retinal glucose metabolism was investigated under different light conditions in cats,pigs and rabbits. Glycolysis and glucose oxidation in the outer and inner parts of theretina were assessed by determining arteriovenous concentration differences foroxygen, glucose and lactate, as well as local blood flow. 5. 5. Mathematical Modelling of Insulin Signalling : Effects on Glucose Metabolism in Skeletal Muscle

    Författare :Peter Sögård; Högskolan i Skövde; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Naturvetenskap; Natural sciences;

    Sammanfattning : The use of models to understand complex phenomena is indispensable to the scientific community. The advantage of a model is that it simplifies the phenomena under study. However, a model should be only as complex as required, no more, no less. LÄS MER
