  1. 1. Odour-mediated nectar foraging in the silver Y moth, Autographa gamma

    Författare :Dainius Plepys; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; predation risk; Noctuidae; Lepidoptera; flight tunnel; GC-EAD; single sensillum; sprayer; ultrasound; floral volatiles; attraction; foraging; mate-finding; lilac aldehydes; olfactory receptor neurones; Ecology; Ekologi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : It is well established that floral odours play a significant role in the nectar foraging behaviour in Lepidoptera and other insect orders. Floral odour may elicit searching, alighting and feeding behaviours alone or in concert with visual stimuli. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Influence of herbivore-induced changes in host plants on reproductive behaviours in Spodoptera littoralis : herbivore-plant interactions

    Författare :Ali Zakir; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Insect herbivores orient towards host plants using sensory cues and olfaction plays a major role, especially in nocturnal herbivores, during selection of host plants suitable for feeding, mating and oviposition. Plants defend themselves from herbivore feeding by producing volatiles as well as non-volatiles chemical compounds. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Gall midge olfaction and its role in speciation

    Författare :Tina Boddum; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : With the swede midge (Contarinia nasturtii) as our main model species, we study two types of olfactory cues that are of importance for gall midges: 1) the pheromones emitted by the female to attract the male; 2) and the host plant volatiles that the females use when finding a host for oviposition. We found that both the blend of compounds and the enantioisomeric form are important for male attraction in the wind tunnel and in the field. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Pheromones for modulating reproduction in cattle : biological potential of oestrus-related substances inintra- and inter-species chemical communication

    Författare :Kristina Nordéus; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Declining dairy cow fertility, largely attributable to increasing milk yields, is of major concern to dairy farmers worldwide. New tools for reproductive management, to replace exogenous hormones, would be of great interest. Chemical communication in cattle has been suggested to cause modifications of the oestrous cycle. 5. 5. Olfactory mechanisms of host selection in phytophagous insects : behavior, neuron, and receptor

    Författare :Muhammad Binyameen; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The most challenging tasks for phytophagous insects are the location and selection of mates, food sources, and oviposition sites, all crucial for survival and reproduction. To perform these tasks insects rely largely on their sense of smell (olfaction). LÄS MER
