11. Regulation of bile acids by prebiotic food components : Studies in rat caecum and in serum of mice and humans
Sammanfattning : Bile acids (BA) are formed from cholesterol in the liver and, apart from being part of fat digestion, they also act as signalling molecules in several health-related physiological processes. BA composition is regulated by gut microbiota as well as dietary fibre (DF) and fat in the diet. LÄS MER
12. Ring-opening catalysts for cetane improvement of diesel fuels
Sammanfattning : The global oil refining industry with its present product distribution essentially shifted towards fuels such as gasoline and diesel will most likely hold the fort for considerable time. However, conditions are changing and refinery survival will very much depend on long-term planning, process and product flexibility and being at the frontiers of refining technology, a technology where catalysts play leading roles. 13. Mercury species transformations in marine and biological systems studied by isotope dilution mass spectrometry and stable isotope tracers
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the implementation of species-specific isotope dilution (SSID) methodology and stable isotope tracers to determine mercury species occurrence and transformation processes in-situ and during sample treatment. Isotope enriched tracers of methyl-, ethyl- and inorganic mercury were synthesised and applied in different combinations to marine and biological samples. LÄS MER
14. Nucleotide Substitution Patterns in Vertebrate Genomes
Sammanfattning : The rates and patterns at which nucleotide substitutions occur vary significantly across the genome sequence of vertebrates. A prominent example is the difference in the rate of evolution of functional sequences versus nonfunctional (neutrally evolving) sequences, which is explained by the influence of natural selection on functional sequences. 15. Chronic gastritis in a sample of the general population : Helicobacter pylori infection, metaplastic transformation, epithelial proliferation, p53- and p21 expression and antral mucosal gastrin content with reference to gastric carcinoma development
Sammanfattning : Infection with H. pylori is the main cause of chronic inflammation in the stomach. lt is strongly associated with benign ulcer disease and a risk factor for gastric carcinoma (GC). Different tophographical types of gastritis bear different risks for future development of GC. LÄS MER
