1. Galanin receptor ligands
Sammanfattning : In the nervous system galanin primarily displays a modulatory role. The galaninergic system consists of a number of bioactive peptides with a highly plastic expression pattern and three different receptors. The lack of receptor subtype selective ligands and antibodies have severely hampered the charac-terization of this system. LÄS MER
2. Synthesis of lactosamine-containing carbohydrate structures and development for their easy assembly and conjugation
Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on four publications. The first chapter describes preparation of anomerically pure thioethyl-, thiophenyl-, and n-pentenyl 2-azido-2-deoxy glycosyl building blocks from easily accessible per-acetylated glycosamines. LÄS MER
3. Structural studies on lipopolysaccharides from haemophilus species
Sammanfattning : Background: Carbohydrates are indispensable mediators for a variety of cellular interactions. In biological systems carbohydrates are usually linked to a carrier as e.g. proteins or lipids. LÄS MER
4. Characterization and engineering of carbohydrate-active enzymes for biotechnological applications
Sammanfattning : Extremozymes are enzymes produced by microorganisms that live in extreme habitats. Due to their higher stability, extremozymes is attracting interest as biocatalysts in various industrial processes. In this context, carbohydrate-active extremozymes can be used in various processes relevant to the paper, food and feed industry. LÄS MER
5. Synthesis and Development of Methods for Preparation of Inositolphosphoglycans, Glycoglycerolipids and Glycerophospholipids
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the synthesis of a series of myo-inositol-containing oligosaccharides, and the exploration of using the chiral epoxide (S)-glycidol in short synthetic routes to glycoglycerolipids and glycerophospholipids. In chapter 2, synthesis of the core heptasaccharyl myo-inositol Galp(α1-6)Galp(α1 -3)Galf(β1-3)[Glcp(α1-P04-6)Manp](α1-3)Manp(α1-4)GlcNp(α1-6)Ins-1-P04, found in the lipophosphoglycans of Leishmania parasites, is described.
