  1. 16. Aspects on dermatan sulfate metabolism

    Författare :Erik Eklund; Matrixbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Klinisk biologi; Clinical biology; iduronic acid; galactosaminoglycan; Dermatan sulfate; biosynthesis;

    Sammanfattning : The functions of proteoglycans often depend on the fine structure of the covalently attached glycosaminoglycan (GAG) side-chains. The process leading to the mature GAG is complex and involves a multitude of different enzymatic steps. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Human studies evaluating dGEMRIC as a prognostic tool for knee osteoarthritis

    Författare :Henrik Owman; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Delayed gadolinium-enhanced MRI of cartilage dGEMRIC ; knee; cartilage; glycosaminoglycan; anterior cruciate ligament injury; meniscal injury; osteoarthritis; joint space narrowing; osteophyte;

    Sammanfattning : Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common joint disorder worldwide, causing joint pain and stiffness. The current gold standard for diagnosing knee OA is radiography. However, the disease has often progressed well beyond the point of no return once radiographic cartilage changes become visible. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Designing biosensor platforms to study glycosaminoglycan interactions

    Författare :Noomi Altgärde; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; interaction studies; molecular immobilization; QCM-D; glycosaminoglycans; extracellular matrix;

    Sammanfattning : The importance of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) has been highlighted in many areas of research during recent years. Not only are they important in providing structure and support to our tissues but they also function as interaction partners in the extracellular matrix and at the cell membrane. LÄS MER

  4. 19. The effect of hypoxia on macrophage proteoglycans: potential role in atherosclerosis

    Författare :Annika Asplund; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :atherosclerosis; proteoglycans; glycosaminoglycans; macrophages; hypoxia; hypoxia-inducible transcription factor; LDL binding; cell motility;

    Sammanfattning : A critical step in the development of atherosclerotic lesions appears to be the retention of low density lipoproteins (LDL) in the arterial wall, mediated by negatively charged proteoglycans (PG). Retained LDL is susceptible to modification and uptake by resident macrophages that are found in hypoxic sites in atherosclerotic lesions (with oxygen levels below 1%). LÄS MER

  5. 20. Virus-cell membrane interactions - Binding studies of Herpes Simplex Virus using surface-sensitive techniques

    Författare :Nadia Peerboom; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TIRF microscopy; single particle tracking; binding kinetics; glycosaminoglycans; herpes simplex virus;

    Sammanfattning : Viruses are parasites capable of infecting all forms of life. They lack the ability to replicate by themselves and therefore hijack the replication machinery of cells to produce new viral copies, called virions. LÄS MER
