  1. 1. Tools for understanding the glycosaminoglycan biosynthesis

    Författare :Daniel Willén; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Xylosides; Glycosaminoglycans; Proteoglycans; β4GalT7; Carbohydrate synthesis; GAG priming; GAG inhibition;

    Sammanfattning : For cells to function correctly within an organism, they need different systems to communicate with each other. One crucial part of cell signaling is the proteoglycans (PGs) and glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), which are macromolecules that bind different signaling molecules and proteins necessary for processes such as growth and proliferation. 2. 2. Regulation of Renal Hyaluronan in Water Handling : Studies in vivo and in vitro

    Författare :Sara Stridh; Peter Hansell; Mats Rundgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kidney; water balance; fluid handling; diabetes; nephropathy; ACE fetopathy; reabsorption; hyaluronic acid; glycosaminoglycan; GAG; extracellular matrix; mTOR; rapamycin; streptozotocin;

    Sammanfattning : Hyaluronan (HA) is a negatively charged extracellular matrix (ECM) component with water-attracting properties. It is the dominating ECM component in the renal medullary interstitium, where the amount changes in relation to hydration status: it increases during hydration and decreases during dehydration. 3. 3. Papillomavirus binding and entry : The heparan sulfate receptor and inhibition by lactoferrin

    Författare :Peter Drobni; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Papillomaviruses (PVs) infect epithelial cells and are the main causative agent of cervical carcinoma. There are today more than a hundred different PV types and these can be divided into high risk and low risk types. They infect differentiating epithelial cells which make it cumbersome to propagate and produce human papillomavirus (HPV) virions. LÄS MER

  4. 4. On the binding of growth-promoting polyamines to proteoglycans: Implications for growth-regulation and polycation-mediated gene transfer

    Författare :Mattias Belting; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; cationic lipid.; gene transfer; gene therapy; cell growth; polyamine transport; spermine; polyamine; growth-inhibition; heparan sulphate; dermatan sulphate; Proteoglycan; glycosaminoglycan; cytogenetics; Genetik; cytogenetik;

    Sammanfattning : Initial investigations were directed at studying the interaction between polyamines and various glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). The polyamine spermine displayed binding to dermatan sulphate (DS) and heparan sulphate (HS) with similar (Kd, 3.9 x 10-4 M) and higher (Kd, 0.37 x 10-6 M) affinity, respectively, than to DNA. 5. 5. Involvement of Heparan Sulphate Biosynthesis and Turnover in Cell Proliferation. A Novel Role for Nitric Oxide in Recycling of Heparan Sulphate Proteoglycans

    Författare :Katrin Mani; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nitrite.; nitric oxide; growth-inhibition; xyloside; glypican; heparan sulphate; Proteoglycan; glycosaminoglycan; Clinical biology; Klinisk biologi;

    Sammanfattning : The present investigation focuses on the role of HS metabolism in cell proliferation. The effect of the HS priming ß-D-xyloside, 2-(6-hydroxynaphthyl)-O-ß-D-xylopyranoside (Xyl-2-Nap-6-OH) on the proliferation of normal and transformed cells was studied. LÄS MER
