16. Identification of manifest diabetes and complication development in gestational diabetes mellitus. The pursuit for biomarkers
Sammanfattning : Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a type of diabetes which is first recognised during pregnancy. In the county of Skåne in Southern Sweden, over 2% of all pregnancies are complicated by GDM, a number that is generally several times higher worldwide. LÄS MER
17. Development and Application of Proximity Assays for Proteome Analysis in Medicine
Sammanfattning : Along with proteins, a myriad of different molecular biomarkers, such as post-translational modifications and autoantibodies, could be used in an attempt to improve disease detection and progression. In this thesis, I build on several iterations of the proximity ligation assay to develop and apply new adaptable methods to facilitate detection of proteins, autoantibodies and post-translational modifications. 18. Genetics of Diabetes Subtypes. Characterization of novel cluster-based diabetes subtypes
Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) has been reproducibly clustered into five subtypes based on six-clinical variables; age at diabetes onset, body mass index (BMI), Glutamic acid decarboxylase autoantibodies (GADA), glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and insulin secretion and resistance estimated as HOMA2B and HOMA2IR derived from fasting glucose and Cpeptide. These subtypes have different disease progression and risk of complications. LÄS MER
19. Early stress, cortisol in hair and health among children in different psychosocial environments
Sammanfattning : Psychosocial circumstances during early life are increasingly recognized as crucial, not only for the growing individual but also for health throughout life. A possible mechanism could be physiologic dysregulation due to stress. LÄS MER
20. Aspects of autoantibody epitopes in type 1 diabetes
Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is strongly associated with autoantibodies against insulin (IAA), glutamic acid decarboxylase 65 (GADA), insulinoma-associated protein 2 (IA-2A) and the most recently identified zinc T8 transporter (ZnT8A). Together or alone, they are important both to predict T1D and to classify diabetes at the time of clinical onset. LÄS MER
