16. Disinhibitory and aggressive behavior in the rat. Neurohumoral mechanisms
Sammanfattning : Effective pharmacological treatment for impulsive aggression and dysfunctional impulsive behavior is needed. These behavioral disturbences in man and impulsive-like and aggressive behavior in animals may involve serotonin (5-HT), noradrenaline (NA), GABAA receptors and steroid hormones, e.g. testosterone. 17. Cardiovascular dysfunction in obstructive sleep apnea
Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses relationships between the presence or severity of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and blood pressure (BP) as well as other signs of cardiovascular dysfunction. In a cross-sectional investigation of a sleep laboratory cohort of 81 patients, a dose response relationship was observed between the number of apneas plus hypopneas per hour of sleep (apnea-hypopnea index, AHI; measured with polysomnography) and office systolic and diastolic BP (SBP and DBP), daytime ambulatory DBP as well as nighttime ambulatory SBP and DBP (all ambulatory measurements taken at 20-minute intervals). 19. Medication adherence, side effects and patient-physician interaction in hypertension
Sammanfattning : Hypertension is an important risk factor for cardiovascular disease, the incidence of which it is possible to reduce by prophylactic treatment with antihypertensive drugs. In clinical practice, however, only a minority of patients reach target blood pressure levels. LÄS MER
20. GH, IGF-1 and insulin in the regulation of lipid and lipoprotein metabolism
Sammanfattning : It is well known that growth hormone (GH) has profound effects on lipid and lipoprotein metabolism. Insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) is believed to mediate some of the effects of GH via endocrine and paracrine mechanisms. Moreover, both GH and IGF-I are known to influence insulin secretion.
