  1. 6. Systemic fungal diseases in natural plant populations

    Författare :Anders Wennström; Lars Ericson; Peter G. Ayres; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Systemic diseases; rust; smut; Puccinia minussensis; Lactuca sibirica; Puccinia pulsatillae; Pulsatilla pratensis; lateral growth; abiotic factors; disease transmission; Svampsjukdomar hos växter;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis was to study interactions between systemic fungal diseases and perennial plants. Using the systemic rust Puccinia minussensis on the host plant Lactuca sibirica, and the rust Puccinia pulsatillae on the host plant Pulsatilla pratensis, this thesis focused on: (i) the effects of systemic diseases on their hosts (ii) host and pathogen responses to abiotic factors, (iii) the importance of life history strategies for understanding host-pathogen interactions, and (iv) the evolutionary consequences of living in close associations. 2. 7. Wood-Decomposing Fungi: Soil colonization, effects on indigenous bacterial community in soil and hydroxyl radical production

    Författare :Karin Tornberg; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; hydroxyl radicals; fungal growth; interactions; soil colonization; bacterial community; soil; brown-rot fungi; wood-decomposing fungi; white-rot fungi; Ekologi; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : The extracellular enzyme activities of wood-decomposing basidiomycetes are essential for wood degradation, but are also able to degrade various recalcitrant organic pollutants. The possible application of wood-decomposing fungi in bioremediation has increased the interest in understanding their growth and activity in soil. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Colonisation and PAH degradation by wood-rotting fungi in contaminated soil

    Författare :Erik Andersson; Bioteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; agricultural hydrology; Soil Science; Bioteknik; Biotechnology; PLFA; PAH metabolites; PAH; degradation; contaminated soil; soil; brown-rot fungi; white-rot fungi; Colonisation; fungal growth; Lantbrukshydrologi; marklära; Chemical technology and engineering; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi;

    Sammanfattning : Bioremediation of soils is considered a low-cost alternative to other remediation techniques. Its ability to remove a number of different pollutants has been demonstrated, relying mainly on the activities of indigenous soil bacteria. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Fungal DNA, Mould, Dampness and Allergens in Schools and Day Care Centers and Respiratory Health

    Författare :Guihong Cai; Dan Norbäck; Christer Janson; Nils Åberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Day care centers; Quantitative PCR; Fungal DNA; Allergens; Indoor environment; Building dampness; Bacteria; Mycotoxins; Respiratory symptoms; Asthma; School environment; Viable moulds; School children; Occupational and Environmental Medicine; Arbets- och miljömedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Day care centers and schools are important environments for children, but few epidemiological studies exist from these environments. Mould, dampness, fungal DNA and allergens levels in these environments and respiratory health effects in school children were investigated in this thesis. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Mould on building materials - A calorimetric study of fungal activity as a function of environmental factors

    Författare :Yujing Li; Avdelningen för Byggnadsmaterial; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; materiallära; byggnadsteknik; building construction; fungal activity; temperature; relative humidity; building; image analysis; indoor environment; wood; materialteknik; material technology; mould; calorimetry; isothermal calorimeter;

    Sammanfattning : Mould problems in buildings have become a growing concern during the past decades. The growth of mould fungi indoors deteriorates air quality, influences human health and causes economical losses. Preventing mould growth from occurring is a more cost effective option than cleaning and renovation of buildings with mould problems. LÄS MER
