21. Functional brain imaging of sensorimotor dysfunction and restoration : investigations of discomplete spinal cord injury and deep brain stimulation for essential tremor
Sammanfattning : The nervous system exists to generate adaptive behaviour by processing sensory input from the body and the environment in order to produce appropriate motor output, and vice versa. Consequently, sensorimotor dysfunction is the basis of disability in most neurological pathologies. LÄS MER
22. Molecular and functional neuroanatomy of mood disorder circuits
Sammanfattning : The ability to interpret and react to external stimuli is essential for survival. An organism has to be able to predict a favorable outcome, and, more importantly, a non-favorable one that could mean danger for life. LÄS MER
23. Congenital adrenal hyperplasia : pre-and postnatal treatment effects on cognition, behavior and brain resting-state functional connectivity
Sammanfattning : Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), an autosomal recessive disorder affecting adrenal steroid synthesis, is linked to impaired adrenal synthesis of cortisol and aldosterone. The increased production of androgen precursors in the adrenal cortex during fetal life leads to the virilization of external genitalia in girls with CAH already in utero. LÄS MER
24. Cognitive function, quality of life and functional brain networks : before and after glioma surgery
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate how cognitive function and quality of life are affected by glioma surgery in the supplementary motor area (SMA) and the lower primary motor cortex (M1), as well as to explore possible changes in functional network connectivity after surgery in the SMA.Sixteen patients subject to resective neurosurgical procedures due to gliomas in either the SMA or the M1 were studied. 25. Novel technologies for studies of structural and functional connections
Sammanfattning : To understand the mechanisms underlying the correct functioning of an organ it is important to study its architecture and how the interactions between cells are leading to a specific function. Specifically, the connections that form in the brain are related to the pattern of activation that neurons have, and can help to understand what is the function of each region. LÄS MER
