1. Stability of Alternative Nuclear Fuel Materials in Aqueous Systems
Sammanfattning : Nuclear power produces a large portion of the electricity worldwide. It has been the largest low-carbon energy source for more than 30 years and has played an essential role in the security of energy supplies for many countries. LÄS MER
2. New insights into lubricated tribological contacts
Sammanfattning : The emissions of carbon dioxide, CO2, must rapidly be reduced to avoid severe climate change. Tribology-related solutions can be an important part in reducing these emissions. The aim of this thesis is to improve the fundamental knowledge in two tribology-related fields, both concerning lubrication, to enable such solutions in the future. LÄS MER
3. Tribology for Greener Combustion Engines : Scuffing in Marine Engines and a Lubricating Boric Acid Fuel Additive
Sammanfattning : This thesis aims at increased knowledge in two fields of tribological research; both related to making currently used combustion engines greener. The first field regards the possibilities of using a boric acid fuel additive to increase fuel efficiency. LÄS MER
4. Furnace Wall Corrosion in a Wood-fired Boiler
Sammanfattning : The use of renewable wood-based fuel has been increasing in the last few decades because it is said to be carbon neutral. However, wood-based fuel, and especially used wood (also known as recycled wood or waste wood), is more corrosive than virgin wood (forest fuel), because of higher amounts of chlorine and heavy metals. 5. Learning from assessments of resource efficiency measures and their impact on resource use and the environment - Based on a case of additive manufacturing and a review of assessment studies
Sammanfattning : Resource efficiency measures have the potential to reduce the environmental and resource impacts of the current linear economy by decreasing the physical flows of material and energy associated with producing and using products and services. In order to investigate this potential, there is a need for assessments from a systems perspective, which for example enables the identification of possible trade-offs between different measures and aspects of resource efficiency depending on the product characteristics.
