2. Human brain function evaluated with rCBF-SPECT : memory and pain related changes and new diagnostic possibilities in Alzheimer’s disease
Sammanfattning : The aim of this doctoral thesis was to study the influence of memory, pain, age and education on the regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF), i.e. brain function, in early Alzheimer's disease (AD) and in chronic neck pain patients in comparison to healthy controls and in healthy elderly per se. 3. Neurobiological aspects on brain function in neuro-psychiatric patients and in healthy subjects
Sammanfattning : The levels of insulin-like growth factor-2 (IGF-2) were assessed in lumbar cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from children with various kinds of brain damage and from Alzheimer (AD) patients and controls. Whole CSF was separated using acid gel chromatography and the presence of insulin-like growth factor binding protein and two different kinds of free IGF-2 m the CSF was established. LÄS MER
4. The effect of chronic alcoholism on epigenetic patterns regulating gene expression and neurodegeneration in the human brain
Sammanfattning : Chronic alcoholism causes about 3.2% of all deaths worldwide. It has an association to about 60 different diseases and injuries with enormous social and economical impact. Despite these facts, very few pharmacological treatments exist and we can still not explain the mechanisms behind addiction, craving and cognitive impairments seen in the abuser. LÄS MER
5. Episodic memory in the human prefrontal cortex
Sammanfattning : This thesis consisting of five papers examines the relationship between haemodynamic activation in the prefrontal cortex with episodic memory function in the healthy human brain. Brain function is measured with positron emission tomography (PET) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (FMRI) and episodic memory for words as well as visuo-spatial material is examined. LÄS MER
