  1. 21. Robust intersection of hexahedral meshes and triangle meshes with applications in finite volume methods

    Författare :Frida Svelander; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; triangle-hex intersection; overlapping triangles; degenerate mesh; volume fraction; area fraction; cut cell; conjugated heat transfer.; triangle-hex intersection;

    Sammanfattning : The topic of this thesis is the intersection of a structured hexahedral grid and one or more triangle meshes. The interest in the problem has arisen in connection with a finite volume method for simulation of conjugated heat transfer. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Retrieval practice and individual differences : exploring factors relevant to the benefit and use of retrieval practice

    Författare :Frida Bertilsson; Tova Stenlund; Anna Sundström; Shana Carpenter; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; retrieval practice; testing effect; individual differences; cognition; personality; learning; Psychology; psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : When students are studying outside of the classroom, they tend to use learning strategies that research has found to be relatively ineffective. This is problematic as a relatively large proportion of students do not finish compulsory school and/or upper-secondary school with sufficient grades. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Inequality in Educational Outcomes : How Aspirations, Performance, and Choice Shape School Careers in Sweden

    Författare :Frida Rudolphi; Jan O. Jonsson; Michael Gähler; Anthony Heath; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; achievement; aspirations; attainment; educational choice; ethnic inequality; performance; social origin; Sociology; sociologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis examines different aspects of educational inequalities, drawing on the notion that inequality in educational attainment depends on two separate mechanisms: that children from advantaged social backgrounds perform better at school (primary effects) and tend more than others to choose to continue in education given performance (secondary effects). Study I shows that the long-term decrease in social class inequality in the transition from compulsory to academic upper secondary education since the middle of the mid-20th century up to the late 1990s, seems to be related to both declining primary and secondary effects. 4. 24. Impact of the gut microflora on the digestive system in the suckling rat

    Författare :Frida Fåk; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; probiotics; prebiotics; antibiotics; lactobacilli; bacteria; intestinal permeability; Small intestine; maturation; weaning; suckling;

    Sammanfattning : The postnatal development of the gastrointestinal (GI) system in mammals is genetically programmed, but is, to an unknown extent, regulated by external factors such as the diet and the gut microflora. These factors can influence the growth of the GI tract, the age-related pattern of appearance of digestive enzymes and the decreased intestinal macromolecular permeability at gut closure, normally timed with weaning in young rodents. 5. 25. Creating spaces for action. ANC-women politicians' views on bridewealth and gender-related power

    Författare :Frida Nilsson; Tom Burns; Birgitta Holm; Marianne Liljeström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Sociology; ANC-women; bridewealth lobola; discourse; discursive strategy; gender; gender-related power; hermeneutic approach; structure; agency; self-reflexivity; Sociologi; Sociology; Sociologi;

    Sammanfattning : The first aim of this work has been to analyse and understand the ways in which a group of ANC-women politicians reason about bridewealth/lobola – an institution about which they express differing views, in particular about whether or not it is oppressive to women. The main body of the empirical material is based on 27 interviews conducted in South Africa in the period 1996-1998. LÄS MER
