1. Tunable surfaces : using polyoxoniobates and -tantalates as molecular building blocks
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes and explains the use of aqueous polyoxometalates (POMs), as molecular building blocks in the fabrication of tunable solid-state materials, such as thin films. Microwave irradiation in the synthesis of Nb10, Nb6 and Ta6 is a rapid and efficient alternative to conventional hydrothermal methods, while offering equal – if not greater yields – of product. 2. Superhydrophobic Cellulosic Surfaces : Preparation and Characterisation of Superhydrophobic Cellulosic Surfaces. Investigation of the Free Energy Barriers Between Cassie-Baxter and Wenzel States of Wetting
Sammanfattning : .... LÄS MER
3. Free Volume Depth Profiling at Polymer Surfaces and Interfaces
Sammanfattning : Pulsed low energy positron beams provide a unique and non-destructive tool to depth probe the free volume of polymers at surfaces and interfaces. Since the employment of low energy positron beams in polymer research is an emerging technique, some focus in this thesis has been on extracting methods and equations needed to interpret the experimental data. 4. Phthalocyanines on Surfaces : Monolayers, Films and Alkali Modified Structures
Sammanfattning : The Phthalocyanines (Pc’s) are a group of macro-cyclic molecules, widely investigated due to the possibility to use them in a variety of applications. Electronic and geometrical structure investigations of molecular model systems of Pc’s adsorbed on surfaces are important for a deeper understanding of the functionality of different Pc-based devices. 5. Atomistic simulations of structural and dynamical properties of liquids under geometric constraints
Sammanfattning : The statistical-mechanical description of liquids represents a formidable problem in physic due to the absence of the analytical theory of the liquid state. Atomistic simulations represent a unique source of information in this respect and can be implemented in order address macroscopically measurable liquid properties, including its structure and dynamics, based on the information of the interactions between its constituent molecules.
