  1. 11. New alternatives to combat Listeria monocytogenes and Chlamydia trachomatis : Design, synthesis, and evaluation of substituted ring-fused 2-pyridones as anti-virulent agents

    Författare :Martina Kulén; Fredrik Almqvist; Anna Linusson Jonsson; Fritiof Pontén; Morten B. Strøm; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Antibiotic resistance; anti-virulence; Listeria monocytogenes; Chlamydia trachomatis; ring-fused 2-pyridone; organic synthesis; structure-based design; PrfA; drug design; structure-activity relationship;

    Sammanfattning : Antibiotic resistance has become a global health burden with the number of resistant bacteria continuously increasing. Antibiotic drugs act by being either bactericidal (killing bacteria) or bacteriostatic (inhibiting growth of bacteria). However, these modes of action increase the selective pressure on the bacteria. 2. 12. Tissue Microarrays for Analysis of Expression Patterns

    Författare :Cecilia Lindskog Bergström; Fredrik Pontén; Anna Asplund; Ari Ristimäki; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Tissue microarrays; Antibody-based proteomics; Immunohistochemistry; Biomarker discovery; Diabetes; Lung cancer; Influenza virus; Evolution; Pathology; Patologi;

    Sammanfattning : Proteins are essential building blocks in every living cell, and since the complete human genome was sequenced in 2004, researchers have attempted to map the human proteome, which is the functional representation of the genome. One such initiative is the Human Protein Atlas programme (HPA), which generates monospecific antibodies towards all human proteins and uses these for high-throughput tissue profiling on tissue microarrays (TMAs). 3. 13. Protein Expression Profiling of Cancer Biomarkers

    Författare :Kristina Magnusson; Fredrik Pontén; Karin Jirström; Anna Dimberg; Tibor Tot; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Antibody-based proteomics; Biomarker; SATB2; Colorectal cancer; ANLN; Breast cancer; CD93; Angiogenesis; Pathology; Patologi;

    Sammanfattning : The Human Protein Atlas project is a Swedish research initiative that uses antibody-based proteomics for large scale protein profiling in human tissues and cells. Affinity-purified antibodies are produced within the project and used for immunohistochemical staining on tissue micro arrays (TMAs) in order to map the human proteome and publish the result in a protein atlas (www. 4. 14. An integrative strategy for targeted evaluation of biomarker expression in non-small cell lung cancer

    Författare :Johanna Mattsson; Patrick Micke; Johan Botling; Fredrik Pontén; Åslaug Helland; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; non-small cell lung cancer; prognostic biomarkers; predictive biomarkers; immunohistochemistry; gene expression; COX-2; claudin; ALK; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Despite improvements in therapy, the prognosis for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients remains poor, and cure is only possible in localized tumors after surgical resection. A new generation of targeted cancer drugs has led to the expectation that lung cancer therapy can be significantly improved, but these drugs are today only an option in a small subset of NSCLC patients, and their effect is temporary. 5. 15. Validation of antibodies for protein profiling : A study using immunohistochemistry on tissue microarrays

    Författare :Linda Paavilainen; Fredrik Pontén; Ola Nilsson; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : The field of proteomics has rapidly expanded due to the completion of the human genome sequence. This thesis validates affinity-purified monospecific antibodies of polyclonal origin, for protein profiling in a broad spectrum of normal tissues and cells. LÄS MER
