    Sammanfattning : Child-directed speech (CDS) differs from adult-directed speech (ADS) in several respects whose possible facilitating effects for language acquisition are still being studied. One such difference concerns articulation rate --- the number of linguistic units by the number of time units, excluding pauses --- which has been shown to be generally lower than in ADS. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, different aspects concerning how to make synthetic talking faces more expressive have been studied. How can we collect data for the studies, how is the lip articulation affected by expressive speech, can the recorded data be used interchangeably in different face models, can we use eye movements in the agent for communicative purposes? The work of this thesis includes studies of these questions and also an experiment using a talking head as a complement to a targeted audio device, in order to increase the intelligibility of the speech.     Sammanfattning : The main goals of this dissertation are to investigate the associations between language and executive functions, including selective auditory attention, in Swedish children aged 4–6, to examine possible links to factors relating to the child and his/her social environment, and to evaluate preschool interventions with regard to potential improvements in language and/or executive functions. Measures were obtained by combining results from behavioral tests, language samples in the form of narratives, parent and teacher ratings and a measure of selective auditory attention as brain activity.
