1. With district heating toward a sustainable future : System studies of district heating and cooling that interact with power, transport and industrial sectors
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to identify measures which should be taken in DH systems (DHSs) in order to contribute to the development of the DHSs and other energy systems (especially transport, industrial and power sectors) toward sustainability.Four business strategies were analysed: delivering excess heat from biofuel production industry to DHSs, conversion of industrial processes to DH, integration of biofuel production in DHSs and integration of DHdriven absorption cooling technology in DHSs. 2. Life-Cycle Energy and Carbon Implications of Wood-Based Products and Construction
Sammanfattning : Forests can be an important element of an overall strategy to limit the atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) that contributes to climate change. As an integral part of the global carbon cycle, forests remove CO2 from the atmosphere as they grow, and accumulate carbon in tree biomass. LÄS MER
3. Nanostructured Bulk Thermoelectrics : Scalable Fabrication Routes, Processing and Evaluation
Sammanfattning : Current fossil fuel based energy sources have a huge shortcoming when one discusses their efficiency. The conversion efficiency of fossil fuel-based technologies is less than 40% in best cases. LÄS MER
4. Energy Efficient Processes for the Production of Gaseous Biofuels - Reforming and Gas Upgrading
Sammanfattning : Replacing fossil fuels with biofuels is one way of reducing the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, thus decreasing our impact on the global climate. For this to be a viable option, several production routes are needed, as no single option can fully replace fossil fuels. LÄS MER
5. Catalytic Steam Pyrolysis of Biomass for Production of Liquid Feedstock
Sammanfattning : The current societal needs for fuels and chemical commodities strongly depend on fossil resources. This dependence can lead to economic instabilities, political problems and insecurity of supplies. LÄS MER
