  1. 1. Applications of microdialysis in studies of the adrenergic regulation of lipolysis in human skeletal muscle and adipose tissue

    Författare :Staffan Enoksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Human; in vivo; microdialysis; ethanol technique; lipolysis; blood flow; microcirculation; skeletal muscle; adipose tissue; adrenoceptors; insulin; forskolin; adenylyl cyclase; phosphodiesterases; glycerol; lactate.;

    Sammanfattning : Lipolysis, i.e., hydrolysis of triaeylglycerol to free fatty acids and glycerol, is a central process in lipid metabolism, and the regulation of lipid metabolism is altered in several common disorders, such as diabetes, obesity and atherosclerosis. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Up-regulation of dopamine D₂ receptors : in vitro and in vivo studies

    Författare :Maria Wanderoy; Eliassitet Eriksson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurochemistry; Neurokemi; neurokemi och neurotoxikologi; Neurochemistry and Neurotoxicology;

    Sammanfattning : In the central nervous system (CNS) dopaminergic and dopaminoceptive neurons have the ability to respond to variations in dopamine levels by for example adjusting their dopamine receptor levels. One of the most well known phenomena in this respect is that long-term blockade of D2 receptors with antipsychotic drugs leads to an increase in striatal D2 receptor density of experimental animals as well as of schizophrenic patients as measured in both post-mortem studies and in vivo positron emission tomography studies of brain. 3. 3. Regulatory importance of cyclic nucleotides in smooth muscle growth of the urogenital tract

    Författare :Per Adolfsson; Thoralf Christoffersen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Smooth muscle hyperplasia/hypertrophy is, if not responsible for, so at least involved in those diseases, which impair life quality for most people in today's society.This thesis, presents a pharmacological investigation, related to the regulatory role of cyclic nucleotides, of smooth muscle hyperplasia/hypeitrophy in human uterine leiomyoma and benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH). 4. 4. Functional significance of phosphorylation of rat renal Na+, K+-ATPase by PKA and PKC

    Författare :Sam Xian Jun Cheng; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Na ; K -ATPase; protein phosphorylation; cAMP-dependent protein kinase; protein kinase C; site-directed mutagenesis; DNA transfection; isoproterenol; [Ca2 ]i.;

    Sammanfattning : The activity of Na+,K+-ATPase (NKA) is short term regulated by hormones as well as by signalling pathways that involve activation of PKA or PKC, but the mechanism(s) remains unclear. This study was performed to evaluate whether this regulation of NKA occurs via PKA- or PKC-mediated phosphorylation of the NKA a subunit. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Genes predisposing to type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular mortality

    Författare :Jenny Fredriksson; diabetes och endokrinologi Genomik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; APOE; APM1; PPARG; PPARGC1A; survival abalysis; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Type 2 Diabetes; cardiovascular mortality; glycogen synthase; adiponectin; GYS1;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular complications are frequent in type 2 diabetes (T2D) and cardiovascular death is the most common cause of death for these individuals. A region on chromosome 19 (19q13) has been indicated by several genome scans as a susceptibility locus for T2D or components of the metabolic syndrome (MetS). LÄS MER
