    Sammanfattning : Swedish tree species of birch (silver: Betula pendula and downy: B. pubescens) are often neglected during forest management activities, resulting in low value logs. This thesis investigated birch stem characteristics and wood properties important for solid wood products, in genetics and management trials in southern Sweden. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Land-Use and Climate Effects of Bioenergy: Carbon balances of Swedish forest bioenergy systems – and – Geospatial biomass supply-and-demand matching for Europe

    Författare :Olivia Cintas Sanchez; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; GIS; EU; bioenergy; Sweden; agriculture; residues; Forestry; climate change; GHG balances;

    Sammanfattning : In order to keep global warming below 2 degrees Celsius, greenhouse gas emissions have to be drastically reduced. Bioenergy can play a role in climate change mitigation by substituting for energy from fossil fuels; however, biomass is a limited resource associated with emissions from land use and land-use change. 3. 8. A window into forest landscapes : Studying the relationship between forests, ownership, ecosystem services, and biodiversity in landscapes

    Författare :Tristan Bakx; BECC: Biodiversity and Ecosystem services in a Changing Climate; []

    Sammanfattning : Production forests are faced with the challenge of adapting to environmental change and simultaneously helping mitigate it and host rich biodiversity. This leads to new conflicts and trade-offs for forest management. Many management options have been proposed to achieve these goals while minimizing the loss of timber production. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Forests, Functions, and Food Webs : Riparian processes through an ecological and molecular lens

    Författare :Jeffery Marker; Eva Bergman; Rolf Lutz Eckstein; Denis Lafage; Rachel E. Bowes; Ann Erlandsson; John S. Richardson; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Riparian systems; functional diversity; stable isotope analysis; metabarcoding; Tetragnathidae; Lycosidae; forestry management; prey subsidies; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Riparian systems are critical ecological interfaces that have a significant impact on the surrounding aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. The riparian and surrounding systems have significant roles in regulating energy flow, providing essential nutrients, and supporting unique species, making them important for ecosystem function. 5. 10. Bioenergy from Swedish forests : A Study of extraction methods, quality and effects for forest owners

    Författare :Daniel Nilsson; Johan Bergh; Peter Lerman; Gudmund Vollbrecht; Nasko Terziew; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; logging residues; forest fuels; moisture content; needles; nutrients; moisture content measurements; Norway spruce; dry-stacking; fresh-stacking; Forestry and Wood Technology; Skog och träteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The forest constitutes a very important element of renewable natural resources and makes a significant contribution to the Swedish bioeconomy. Biofuels are Sweden’s largest source of energy; of all the energy we use, 32% comes from biofuels, and of this approximately 85% comes from the forest and the forestry sector. LÄS MER
