  1. 1. Phosphorus availability and microbial respiration across biomes : from plantation forest to tundra

    Författare :Camilla Esberg; Reiner Giesler; David A. Wardle; Bente J. Graae; Dan Binkley; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phosphorus availability; microbial bioassay; soil respiration; microbial growth rate; Hedley fractionation; soil sorption; weathered soils; boreal forest; subarctic and tundra;

    Sammanfattning : Phosphorus is the main limiting nutrient for plant growth in large areas of the world and the availability of phosphorus to plants and microbes can be strongly affected by soil properties. Even though the phosphorus cycle has been studied extensively, much remains unknown about the key processes governing phosphorus availability in different environments. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Farmers and forest land use in Lao PDR and Vietnam

    Författare :Bo Ohlsson; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : People’s use of the forest land for shifting cultivation has over the last 50 years altered the upland landscape in Laos and Vietnam. The objective of the thesis was to develop interdisciplinary approaches and methods to document, analyse and understand the use of forest land over this time. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Impacts of pine and eucalyptus plantations on carbon and nutrients stocks and fluxes in miombo forests ecosystems

    Författare :Benard Guedes; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Knowledge of how commercial pine and eucalyptus plantations affect soil carbon and nutrient status is important in Mozambique, where incentives are available to increase the area of forest plantations and also to conserve mature miombo forests. Tree species growing on similar sites may affect ecosystem carbon differently if they allocate carbon to aboveground and belowground parts at different rates. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Oak as retention tree in commercial spruce forests : effects on species diversity of Saproxylic beetles and wood production

    Författare :Maria Susanna Koch Widerberg; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Retaining trees valuable for biodiversity is a common conservation measure. There are indications that such trees have important benefits for the diversity of many species groups. However, retaining trees may also have negative effects on timber production. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Quantitative genetics of Norway spruce in Sweden

    Författare :Zhiqiang Chen; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Genetic improvement of solid wood and pulp and paper products related wood quality traits are important to increase productivity and value of Norway spruce plantation in Sweden. To incorporate wood quality traits into Norway spruce tree breeding program, genetic parameters of solid wood and fibre traits were investigated in a large Norway spruce population. LÄS MER
