    Sammanfattning : Chapter I: Forest Devolution Reform in China: A Trigger for Investment or Deforestation? I investigate whether and how the devolution of forestland to households in China triggered investment in forestland, and its effect on forest resource conditions. The investment analysis is based on a panel dataset of a two-round survey of 3,000 households in eight provinces before and after the implementation of the forest devolution reform, while the analysis of resource conditions is based on satellite imagery on forest cover and vegetation during 2001-2012. 2. 2. Evaluation of emerging forest-industry integrated biorefineries : Exploring strategies for robust performance in face of future uncertainties

    Författare :Jonas Zetterholm; Elisabeth Wetterlund; Joakim Lundgren; Johanna Mossberg; Yawer Jafri; Damiana Chinese; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biorefinery; Biomass; Forest industry; Biofuels; Investment; Gasification; Fast pyrolysis; Energiteknik; Energy Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Biorefineries have been promoted to reduce dependency on fossil resources, increase self-sufficiency, and revitalise rural areas. Commercial deployment of forest-based biorefineries has been slow, although academic research has identified several technology options as promising in terms of both costs and resource usage. 3. 3. Non-industrial private forest owners' management decisions : what affects them and why?

    Författare :Mats Andersson; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses the question of whether and how owner and property characteristics of non-industrial private forest (NIPF) owners affect their attitude toward a financial risk and if the attitude toward risk affects the harvesting decisions and discusses differences in attitude toward risk from a gender perspective. Further, the thesis investigates the owner and property characteristics’ effects on objectives of ownership The hypothesis tested here, that the owner and property characteristics affects the attitude toward risk and objectives are largely based on data gathered through a mail survey to NIPF owners in two counties in Northern Sweden. Sammanfattning : The intertwined challenges of food insecurity, deforestation, and biodiversity loss remain perennial challenges in Ethiopia, despite increasing policy interventions. This thesis investigates smallholding farmers’ tree- and forest-based livelihoods and management practices, in the context of national development and conservation policies, and examines how these local management practices and policies transform the agriculture–forest mosaic landscapes of southwestern Ethiopia. 5. 5. Optimisation of Forest Road Investments and the Roundwood Supply Chain

    Författare :Leif Olsson; Mittuniversitetet; []

    Sammanfattning : In a pre-study, concerning roundwood freshness, performed by the Forestry Research Institute of Sweden during the spring of 2000, the quality on the forest road network was identified as a major problem for the Swedish forest sector. These problems mostly occur during spring thaw, but also when rains give muddy gravel roads. LÄS MER
