  1. 1. Development of economic forest tree breeding objectives

    Författare :Mats Berlin; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The overall objective of this thesis was to suggest a framework for developing forest tree breeding objectives with particular emphasis on boreal conditions and, as components of this framework, to define breeding objectives and calculate economic weights based on two case studies of Scots pine in northern Sweden. The framework was designed to take into account boreal conditions, with long rotations, heterogeneous raw materials and a diverse production system. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Supporting Management of the Risk of Wind Damage in South Swedish Forestry

    Författare :Erika Olofsson; Southern Swedish Forest Research Centre; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; decision support; uncertainty; probability; wind climate; tree growth; forest management; spatial planning; topography; climate change; adaptation; Forestry and Wood Technology; Skog och träteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Private forest owners in southern Sweden consider wind damage to be one of the most problematic risks from an economic perspective. A potential climate change also raises the question of the possible impact of such a climate change on the risk of wind damage. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Direct and indirect pressures of climate change on nutrient and carbon cycling in northern forest ecosystems : Dynamic modelling for policy support

    Författare :Klas Lucander; BECC: Biodiversity and Ecosystem services in a Changing Climate; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Forest; boreal ecosystems; Forest biogeochemistry; Forest bioenergy; Boreal coniferous forest; base cations; Biogeochemical cycles; Dynamic Modelling; Carbon cycle; nitrogen cycle; decision support; policy-making; Weathering; Forestry; Land use change;

    Sammanfattning : Northern forest ecosystems play an important role in mitigating climate change by sequestrating carbon (C), while additionally providing and regulating other ecosystem services. A majority of the Swedish environmental quality objects (EQOs) that guide Swedish environmental policy and management are associated with the forest, and they have proven difficult to achieve. 4. 4. Optimal thinning : a theoretical investigation on individual-tree level

    Författare :Peter Fransson; Åke Brännström; Ola Lindroos; Oskar Franklin; Per Lundberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Forest management; Simulation; Optimization; Spatially explicit model; Individual-based model;

    Sammanfattning : Paper I: In paper I, we asked how a tree should optimally allocate its resources to maximize its fitness. We let a subject tree grow in an environment shaded by nearby competing trees. The competitors were assumed to have reached maturity and had stopped growing, thus creating a static light environment for the subject tree to grow in. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Impact of tree species on carbon in forest soils

    Författare :Karna Hansson; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Different tree species differ in productivity, litter quality and quantity, canopy structure and nitrogen deposition. Norway spruce (Picea abies), Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) and birch (Betula pendula and B. pubescens) are the three dominant tree species in Sweden. LÄS MER
