1. Diagenesis and Sequence Stratigraphy : Predictive Models for Reservoir Quality Evolution of Fluvial and Glaciogenic and Non-glaciogenic, Paralic Deposits
Sammanfattning : Development of a predictive model for the distribution of diagenetic alterations and related evolution of reservoir quality of sandstones was achieved by integrating the knowledge of diagenesis to sequence stratigraphy. This approach allows a better elucidation of the distribution of eogenetic alterations within sequence stratigraphy, because changes in the relative sea level induce changes to: (i) pore water chemistry, (ii) residence time of sediments under certain near-surface geochemical conditions, (iii) variations in the detrital composition, and (iv) amounts and type of organic matter. Sammanfattning : Silicon (Si) is ubiqutious in natural waters as dissolved silica (DSi) and is used as a nutrient by many plant and animal species. Sammanfattning : My thesis is part of an overall environmental program evaluating the environmental and human health stress in areas of Nicaragua affected by anthropogenic emission of metals and man-made organic substances. 4. Parameters Controlling Distribution of Diagenetic Alterations within Fluvial and Shallow Marine Sandstone Reservoirs : Evidence from the Libyan Basins
Sammanfattning : This thesis demonstrates that geological setting, depositional facies, open system flux of hot basinal brines and descending of shallow waters have a strong impact on the distribution of the diagenetic alterations within continental and paralic/shallow marine sandstones which in turn control the quality and heterogeneities of the reservoirs.Geological setting controls the mineralogical and textural maturity of sandstone, whereas depositional facies control the pore water chemistry (marine, brackish or meteoric), sedimentary texture and sand body geometry. 5. Sources, composition and transport of fluvial suspended sediment and attached phosphorus in agricultural catchments : a cross-scale analysis
Sammanfattning : Soil loss from arable land is a major environmental issue, as well as freshwater and marine eutrophication. Both these issues are well connected, since particles often transport phosphorus (P) from agricultural areas to surface waters, causing eutrophication. LÄS MER
