1. Towards Undistorted Fluorescence for Tissue Diagnostics and Therapy Monitoring
Sammanfattning : Fluorescence techniques for applications in tissue diagnostics and therapy monitoring were investigated and developed in the work presented in this thesis. The aim was to develop fluorescence diagnostics for the detection of malignant tumors and better delimitation of the tumor margins, using the enhanced contrast in fluorescence between tumor and surrounding healthy tissue. 2. Luminescence Spectroscopy For Biomedical Applications
Sammanfattning : This work presents optical methods utilizing visible light for characterization of biological tissue during diagnostics and treatment processes. The main aim has been to improve the therapeutic outcome of treatment modalities in in vivo studies. LÄS MER
3. Physiological adaptations in two ecotypes of Fucus vesiculosus and in Fucus radicans with focus on salinity
Sammanfattning : The in origin intertidal marine brown alga Fucus vesiculosus L. grow permanently sublittoral in the brackish Bothnian Sea, side by side with the recently discovered F. radicans L. Bergström et L. LÄS MER
4. Development and application of photofragmentation laser-induced fluorescence for visualization of hydrogen peroxides
Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis is mainly motivated by the need for an optical diagnostic technique which can be used to visualize hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in its gas phase. Due to the lack of bound electronic states, H2O2 cannot be detected using laser-induced fluorescence based on electronic excitation. LÄS MER
5. Advancing Upconversion Emissions for Biomedical Imaging
Sammanfattning : During the past decade, upconverting nanoparticles (UCNPs) doped with rare earth ions have become an important class of fluorescence contrast agents for molecular imaging, due to their unique properties. Their property of anti-Stokes luminescence, with both the excitation and emission wavelengths close to the optimal for biomedical imaging, has been extensively explored in various biomedical applications.
