  1. 1. The influence of graphite morphology on the elastic behaviour of cast irons

    Författare :Torsten Sjögren; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Cast iron; flake graphite; compacted graphite; spheroidal graphite; elastic behaviour; modulus of elasticity; graphite modulus of elasticity; nodularity; aspect ratio; plastic deformation; acoustic emission; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : The morphology of the graphite phase largely controls the resulting properties of different grades of cast iron. In flake graphite cast irons, the mechanical properties are low while the thermal conductivity is high. In contrast, with spheroidal graphite cast irons, the mechanical properties are high while the thermal conductivity is low. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Influences of the Graphite Phase on Elastic and Plastic Deformation Behaviour of Cast Irons

    Författare :Torsten Sjögren; Ingvar L. Svensson; Sten Johansson; Jorge Sikora; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cast iron; Flake graphite; Compacted graphite; Spheroidal graphite; Elastic deformation; Plastic deformation; Modulus of elasticity; Graphite modulus of elasticity; Strength coefficient; Strain hardening exponent; Acoustic emission; Construction materials; Konstruktionsmaterial;

    Sammanfattning : The amount and morphology of the graphite phase largely controls the resulting properties of cast iron. For instance, in flake graphite cast irons the mechanical properties are low while the thermal conductivity is high. LÄS MER

  3. 3. On the Inoculation and Graphite Morphologies of Cast Iron

    Författare :Haji Muhammad Muhmond; Michael Vynnycky; Hasse Fredriksson; Peter Schumacher; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials Science and Engineering; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Research was conducted to understand the nucleation mechanism of graphite flakes and nodules and the effect of various elements on the growth morphology of graphite. Investigations were started on flake graphite cast iron. The effect of S on the graphite morphology and MnS was experimentally analysed. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Machinability Testing of Materials in Metal Cutting with Focus on Compacted Graphite Iron and Cutting Fluids

    Författare :Varun Nayyar; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; UTS.; Boring; Drilling; Cutting Fluid; Turning; Milling; Force; Wear; Force; Torque; Compressed air; CGI; Hardness; Tool Life; Material Properties; Chip Microstructure; Tapping;

    Sammanfattning : Due to the stringent demands for lower emission from trucks require better mechanical properties of the material to be used in the engines. Better efficiency necessitates higher peak pressure in the engines and for traditionally used material, Flake Graphite Iron (FGI), the mechanical properties starts to reach the limit of what the material can withstand. Sammanfattning : This thesis work deals with the volume changes during the solidification of cast irons and peritectic steels. The volume changes in casting metals are related to the expansion and/or contraction of the molten metal during solidification. Often, different types of shrinkage, namely macro- and micro-shrinkage, affect the casting quality. LÄS MER
