  1. 1. Fish community patterns in Tanzanian mangrove creeks

    Författare :Augustine Mwandya; Martin Gullström; Olof Lindén; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Mangrove ecosystems; fish assemblages; Mugil cephalus; population genetics; spatial and seasonal variability; human disturbance; East Africa; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Animal Ecology; zooekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Human beings have exploited the biota of mangrove systems for centuries and fish continue to be one of the main products harvested from these habitats. The assumption of mangroves functioning as recruitment areas for juvenile fish from neighbouring habitats such as seagrass beds and coral reefs is a common argument for conservation and management of mangrove ecosystems. 2. 2. Influence of cyanobacterial blooms on coastal fish recruitment

    Författare :Karl-Johan Persson; Catherine Legrand; Markku Viitasalo; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cyanobacteria; coastal fish recruitment; Akvatisk ekologi; Aquatic Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Cyanobacteria are the oldest oxygen-producing organisms on Earth and can be found in almost every terrestrial and aquatic habitat. Their long evolutionary history has enabled them to develop diverse adaptations in order to increase their survival in environments subjected to natural and anthropogenic changes. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Effects of Marine Protected Areas on Tropical Seagrass Ecosystems

    Författare :Elisa Alonso Aller; Johan S Eklöf; Charlotte Berkström; Martin Gullström; Glenn Hyndes; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; coastal ecosystems; seagrass; marine protected areas; management; conservation; fish; herbivory; Western Indian Ocean; East Africa; tropical; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Seagrass beds are highly productive coastal ecosystems that sustain a rich and diverse associated fauna and flora. Increasing anthropogenic pressures threaten seagrass ecosystems and have already led to major seagrass losses across the world. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Assessment of dietary patterns and prey consumption of marine mammals: Grey seals (Halichoerus grypus) in the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Karl Lundström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; grey seal; Halichoerus grypus; Baltic Sea; diet; predation; fish; consumption; fatty acid signature analysis; bioenergetics; foraging ecology;

    Sammanfattning : The Baltic Sea has been severely affected by pollution and resource overexploitation during the last centuries. The grey seal (Halichoerus grypus) is a good example of how a species can be affected by such changes. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Spring dynamics in shallow lakes: the role of plankton, fish and macrophytes in a changing climate

    Författare :Alice Nicolle; Enhet akvatisk ekologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; zooplankton; spring; 0 fish; macrophytes; phenology; climate change; shallow lakes;

    Sammanfattning : Shallow lakes such as Lake Krankesjön are characterized by their extended littoral zones, usually covered by submersed and emergent vegetation. In paper 1, I investigated the relationship between turbidity and macrophyte growth (Chara spp. LÄS MER
