    Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis is to present the general features of field names from the early 17th century to 2012, and to investigate the continuity of such names and attempt to understand what factors are of importance when it comes to their continuity and disappearance. A general survey is conducted in two parishes, Almunge and Väddö, in Uppland, Sweden, with more detailed investigations covering the hamlets of Söderby and Ösby, in Almunge, and Södra Fjäll and Norrbyle, in Väddö.     Sammanfattning : Paper 1: Improving Welfare Through Climate-Friendly Agriculture: The Case of the System of Rice Intensification We use rich survey data to investigate the economic impact of a climate-friendly rice farming method known as the system of rice intensification (SRI) on the welfare of rain-dependent small-holder farmers in Tanzania. SRI reduces water consumption by half, which makes it a promising farming system in the adaptation to climate change in moisture constrained areas, and it does not require flooding of rice fields, resulting in reduced methane emissions.
