  1. 1. Ultrasound prediction of large fetuses. Epidemiological and clinical investigations

    Författare :Gun Lindell; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Two-dimensional ultrasound; three-dimensional ultrasound; fetus; intrauterine growth; maternal characteristic; large-for-gestational age; antenatal calculation; Bayesian theorem; fetal weight; estimation; post-term fetus; fetal macrosomia;

    Sammanfattning : The proportions of newborns with a birth weight (BW) >4,000 g and of macrosomic newborns (BW >4,500 g) have increased during the last two decades, parallel with an increasing maternal pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) and age at the time for pregnancy. Delivery of a large fetus, especially >4,500 g might cause perinatal complications for both the mother and her child. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Fetal Cardiac Function and Venous Circulation - Experiences with Velocity Vector Imaging

    Författare :Charlotte Dahlbäck; Urogynekologi och reproduktionsfarmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pregnancy; fetus; strain; speckle tracking; cardiac function; umbilical vein; venous; ductus venosus; Doppler;

    Sammanfattning : Placental dysfunction resulting in intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) is a common complication of pregnany and severe IUGR, with ensuing fetal hypoxia is an important cause of perinatal mortality and morbidity. Doppler studies of fetal and maternal vessels are routinely used for fetal surveillance and alterations in fetal venous blood flow has been demonstrated as a late sign of fetal compromise. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Doppler Velocimetry in the Evaluation of Fetal Well-Being

    Författare :Mariusz Dubiel; gynekologisk och prenatal ultraljudsdiagnostik Obstetrisk; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstetrics; perinatal outcome; physiology; fetus; Doppler velocimetry; Color Doppler Energy; gynaecology; andrology; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet;

    Sammanfattning : Ultrasound Doppler velocimetry was used to predict fetal well-being. The uterine artery blood velocimetry seemed to be a good predictor of perinatal outcome in high-risk pregnancies and a complement to umbilical artery velocimetry. The fetal middle cerebral artery blood velocimetry might be an early sign of fetal hypoxia. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Ultrasound as predictor of perinatal outcome

    Författare :Gisela Ghosh; gynekologisk och prenatal ultraljudsdiagnostik Obstetrisk; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Doppler; Ultrasound; fetus; amniotic fluid index; nuchal cord; uterine artery; umbilical vein; fetal growth restriction; umbilical artery; pulsation; pregnancy;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the work described in this thesis was to evaluate the value of ultrasound examinations of the amniotic fluid, umbilical cord and blood flow velocity waveform of the fetal and placental vessels as predictors of the perinatal outcome. In the first study, the amniotic fluid index (AFI) measured on admission to the labour ward was evaluated in low-risk pregnancies. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Prenatal Ultrasound and X-ray - Potentially Adverse Effects on the CNS

    Författare :Karin Glimskär Stålberg; Helle Kieler; Ove Axelsson; Bengt Haglund; Eleni Petridou; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Obstetrics and gynaecology; ultrasound; X-ray; fetus; risk; childhood cancer; schizophrenia; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar;

    Sammanfattning : The aim with this thesis was to assess the impact of prenatal ultrasound exposure on psychotic illness, childhood brain tumors (CBT) and school achievement, and to evaluate prenatal X-ray exposure and the risk of CBT.In a cohort study, children born in Malmö 1973-1978, where prenatal ultrasound was used routinely, were considered exposed (n=13, 212) and children born at hospitals with no use of ultrasound, were considered unexposed (n=357,733).
