  1. 1. Fetal Anomalies : Surveillance and Diagnostic Accuracy of Ultrasound and Magnetic Resonance Imaging

    Författare :Hashem Amini; Ove Axelsson; Johan Wikström; Pelle Lindqvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pregnancy termination; fetal anomalies; antenatal diagnosis; ultrasound; second trimester; fetal MRI; CNS anomalies; pregnancy management; non-CNS anomalies; fetal autopsy; birth defects registry; ascertainment; spina bifida; cleft lip palate; Obstetrics and women s diseases; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; Obstetrics and gynaecology; Obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrics and Gynaecology;

    Sammanfattning : The aims were to investigate the accuracy of ultrasound in diagnosis of structural fetal anomalies with special focus on false positive findings (I), to evaluate the additional value of second trimester fetal MRI on pregnancy management (II-III) and to estimate the ascertainment in the Swedish Birth Defects Registry and incidence of spina bifida and cleft lip/palate (IV). Retrospectively, 328 fetal autopsies were identified where pregnancies were terminated due to ultrasonographically diagnosed fetal anomalies. LÄS MER

  2. 2. MRI Studies of the Fetal Brain and Cranium

    Författare :Nuno Canto Moreira; Johan Wikström; Raii Raininko; Daniela Prayer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Fetal MRI; Brain; Cranium; Development; Normal; Ear; Lip; Palate; Biometry; Hippocampus; Measurements; Radiologi; Radiology;

    Sammanfattning : Ultrasound is the primary modality for fetal imaging, but Magnetic Resonance Imaging nowadays has a valuable complementary role as it often reveals findings that alter pregnancy management. Knowledge on some clinically relevant areas of the normal fetal development is still lacking, and this was the aim of this project. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Preeclampsia and the Brain : Epidemiological and Magnetic Resonance Studies

    Författare :Maria Nelander; Johan Wikström; Anna-Karin Wikström; Inger Sundström Poromaa; Gerda Zeeman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; preeclampsia; eclampsia; seizure; MRI; MRS; IVIM; dementia; cardiovascular disease; magnesium; cerebral organic osmolytes; perfusion; Obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrics and Gynaecology;

    Sammanfattning : Preeclampsia is a pregnancy specific syndrome that causes substantial maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. One major contributor to maternal deaths is eclampsia, i.e. when seizures arise in the context of preeclampsia. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Radiological Studies on Hippocampal Development : Morphological Variants and their Relationship to Epilepsy

    Författare :Dragan Bajic; Raili Raininko; Kai Ericson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MRI; Brain development; Hippocampus; Epilepsy; Radiology; Radiologi; Radiologi; Radiology;

    Sammanfattning : During fetal development, the hippocampal structures are folded forming the hippocampal sulcus which penetrates into the temporal lobe and then the entity rotates.  During this process, the hippocampal sulcus will be closed and the inverted hippocampus takes a rounded form. 5. 5. Very preterm birth and fetal growth restriction in adolescence - Cardiovascular and renal aspects

    Författare :Jonas Liefke; Lund Klinisk fysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Preterm and low birth weight; Fetal growth restriction; Magnetic resonance imaging MRI ; Cardiac function; Preterm birth; Adolescence; Kidney function; Kidney anatomy histology; Cardiovascular biomarkers; Arterial stiffness; Ambulatory blood pressure measurement; Biochemical makers;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis applied magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to investigate to what extent very preterm birth due to early onset fetal growth restriction (FGR) impacts the cardiovascular system and kidneys in adolescence. The thesis further investigated whether FGR exacerbates the organ-specific effects of very preterm birth. LÄS MER
