16. Structural Studies of a Xyloglucan Endotransglycosylase from Populus tremula x tremuloides and Three Conserved Hypothetical Proteins from Mycobacterium tuberculosis
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the structural studies of four different proteins from two organisms. Xyloglucan endotransglycosylases, XETs, are involved in plant cell wall expansion and remodeling by splitting and reconnecting xyloglucan-cellulose crosslinks. The first crystal structure of a XET enzyme has been determined to 1.8 Å. LÄS MER

18. Placental LPL and glucose metabolism in complicated pregnancies
Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND: Pregnancies complicated by intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) or diabetes are associated with alterations in both lipid and glucose metabolism, which may lead to long lasting metabolic disturbances in the fetus and susceptibility for developing metabolic syndrome in postnatal life. Glucose is the major energy source for both the fetus and placenta. LÄS MER
19. Perinatal essential fatty acid deficiency in mice: effects on metabolism and behaviour
Sammanfattning : Maternal nutritional status during pregnancy and lactation influences the health of the adult offspring and an adequate supply of essential fatty acids is important for foetal and postnatal growth and development. The overall aim of this thesis was to study short- and long-term effects of perinatal essential fatty acid deficiency in mice on metabolism and behaviour. LÄS MER
20. Systems and Synthetic Biology: “Mining human gut microbial metabolism through in vitro and in silico approaches”
Sammanfattning : The human gut microbiome is a consequence of mutual co-evolutionary interaction between the eukaryotic and prokaryotic parts of the mammalian holobiont. Based on the environmental and dietary inputs, there is a succession of microorganisms living inside the human colon. LÄS MER
