  1. 21. Stress, Drugs and Neuroscience : Neurobiological Effects of Social Stressors and Drug Exposure in Young and Adolescent Rats

    Författare :Linnea Granholm; Ingrid Nylander; Erika Roman; Anne-Lie Svensson; Maria Ellgren; Annika Thorsell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adolescence; alcohol exposure; amphetamine; beta-endorphin; dopamine; dynorphin; early life; endogenous opioids; enkephalin; gene expression; high-speed chronoamperometry; nociceptin orphanin FQ; radioimmunoassay; self-administration; social stress; voluntary alcohol intake; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Experiences early in life or during adolescence modulate neuronal networks in the immature brain and consequently lay the foundation for future susceptibility or resilience towards psychiatric disorders. The objective in this thesis is to understand, in part, how the surrounding environment shapes the brain of a young individual. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Mechanism-based modeling of biological processes involved in oral absorption

    Författare :Benjamin Guiastrennec; Mats O. Karlsson; Martin Bergstrand; Jörg Lippert; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; absorption; bile acids; enterohepatic circulation; food effect; gallbladder; in vitro in vivo correlation; NONMEM; pediatrics; pharmacometrics; tuberculosis; Pharmaceutical Science; Farmaceutisk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : For orally administered drugs, the rate and extent of absorption are governed by the physiology of the gastrointestinal tract, the characteristics of the dosage form and the physico-chemical properties of the drug. This thesis primarily aimed to improve the mechanistic understanding and the predictability of processes involved in the absorption of orally administered drugs using a population modeling approach. 3. 23. Translational Aspects of Blood-Brain Barrier Transport and Brain Distribution of Drugs in Health and Disease

    Författare :Sofia Gustafsson; Margareta Hammarlund-Udenaes; Stina Syvänen; Irena Loryan; Danica Stanimirovic; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Blood-brain barrier; Neurovascular unit; Pharmacokinetics; Neurodegenerative disease; Drug transport; Brain tissue binding; Positron emission tomography; Brain regions; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science;

    Sammanfattning : A high unmet medical need in the area of CNS diseases coincides with high failure rates in CNS drug development. Efficient treatment of CNS disease is constrained by limited entrance of drugs into the brain owing to the blood-brain barrier (BBB), which separates brain from blood. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Deep learning approaches for image cytometry: assessing cellular morphological responses to drug perturbations

    Författare :Philip John Harrison; Ola Spjuth; Carolina Wählby; Andreas Hellander; Peter Horvath; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Deep Learning; Microscopy; Image Analysis; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Image cytometry is the analysis of cell properties from microscopy image data and is used ubiquitously in basic cell biology, medical diagnosis and drug development. In recent years deep learning has shown impressive results for many image cytometry tasks, including image processing, segmentation, classification and detection. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Drug Delivery to the Brain by Liposomes : Understanding Factors Governing Delivery Outcomes In Vivo

    Författare :Yang Hu; Margareta Hammarlund-Udenaes; Teresa Dalla Costa; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nanocarrier; liposome; blood-brain barrier; brain delivery; formulation; methotrexate; diphenhydramine; microdialysis; pharmacokinetics; model-based approach; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science; Farmakokinetik och läkemedelsterapi; Pharmacokinetics and Drug Therapy;

    Sammanfattning : The blood-brain barrier (BBB) is the primary obstacle for efficient drug delivery to the central nervous system (CNS). One promising strategy to enhance brain delivery is to utilize nanocarriers (NC), e.g., liposomes, encapsulating CNS drugs. LÄS MER
