  1. 11. Cytochrome P450 Enzymes in the Metabolism of Cholesterol and Cholesterol Derivatives

    Författare :Maria Norlin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; farmaceutisk biokemi; Pharmaceutical Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Cholesterol is metabolized to a variety of important biological products in the body including bile acids and vitamin D. The present investigation is focused on enzymes that catalyze 7α-hydroxylation or 27-hydroxylation in the metabolism of cholesterol, oxysterols (side chain-hydroxylated derivatives of cholesterol) and vitamin D3. 2. 12. Involvement of the Opioid System in High Alcohol Consumption : Environmental and Genetic Influences

    Författare :Karolina Ploj; Jörgen A Engel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Opioids; ethanol; stress; maternal separation; neonatal handling; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; farmaceutisk farmakologi; Pharmaceutical Pharmacology;

    Sammanfattning : It is well accepted that both inherent and environmental factors influence the pathogenesis of alcohol dependence. This thesis investigates the role of the opioid system in the initiation and maintenance of high ethanol intake. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Modelling of melanocortin receptors and their ligands

    Författare :Peteris Prusis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; melanocortin; G-protein coupled receptor; modeling; three-dimensional; QSAR; chemometrics; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; farmaceutisk farmakologi; Pharmaceutical Pharmacology;

    Sammanfattning : Five subtypes of melanocortin receptors (MC1-MC5R) mediate a wide range of physiological actions, including control of skin tanning, inflammation and food intake. The natural ligands for these receptors are the melanocortins, which are linear peptides 11 to 39 amino acids long. LÄS MER

  4. 14. The Impact of Substance P (SP) N-Terminal Metabolite SP1-7 in Opioid Tolerance and Withdrawal

    Författare :Qin Zhou; Tsukasa Sakurada; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; farmaceutisk biokemi; Pharmaceutical Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The heptapeptide SP1-7, a metabolite of the neuroactive peptide substance P (SP), is suggested to play a role in opioid addiction and memory function. These two dimensions are known to involve dopamine and glutamate transmissions mediated through dopamine receptors and N-methyl-D- aspartate (NNMA) receptors, respectively. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Design and stereoselective syntheses of Phe-Phe dipeptidomimetics

    Författare :Annika Jenmalm Jensen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; Organic Pharmaceutical Chemistry; organisk farmaceutisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Several stereochemically well characterized Phe-Phe dipeptidomimetics have been designed and synthesized. The Phe-Phe vinyl isostere was used as a key intermediate. The synthesized series of mimetics includes two isomeric epoxides, four 1,2-dihydroxyethylene isomers, two isomeric allylic alcohols and two isomeric allylic fluorides. LÄS MER
