  1. 21. Land-Use and Climate Effects of Bioenergy: Carbon balances of Swedish forest bioenergy systems – and – Geospatial biomass supply-and-demand matching for Europe

    Författare :Olivia Cintas Sanchez; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; GIS; EU; bioenergy; Sweden; agriculture; residues; Forestry; climate change; GHG balances;

    Sammanfattning : In order to keep global warming below 2 degrees Celsius, greenhouse gas emissions have to be drastically reduced. Bioenergy can play a role in climate change mitigation by substituting for energy from fossil fuels; however, biomass is a limited resource associated with emissions from land use and land-use change. 2. 22. Radiocesium in the forest and forest industry, Studies on the flow, occurrence and technological enhancement of radionuclides in the forest industry with emphasis on radiocesium

    Författare :Aaro Ravila; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; forestry technology; forestry; recovery; Recycling; enhancement; fallout; radiocesium; wood; ash; biofuel; Silviculture; radiation.; Skogsvetenskap; skogsbruk; skogsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : In the aftermath of the nuclear weapons testing and as compared with agriculture, the forest industry has received relatively little attention in spite of its large-scale use of radiocesium- contaminated wood and water. After the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident in 1986, numerous studies of the forest environment have been conducted with respect to radionuclide transfer through the forest ecosystem or its many components. 3. 23. Nutrient imbalance in Norway spruce

    Författare :Gunnar Thelin; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Silviculture; Växtekologi; Plant ecology; nitrogen saturation; base saturation; pH; multiple limitation; deficiency; copper; boron; potassium; pollution; sustainability; conifers; forestry; forestry technology; Skogsvetenskap; skogsbruk; skogsteknik; Soil Science; agricultural hydrology; Lantbrukshydrologi; marklära;

    Sammanfattning : The studies presented in my thesis indicate that growing Norway spruce in monoculture does not constitute sustainable forest management in a high N and S deposition environment, such as in southern Sweden. The combination of N-induced high growth rates and leaching due to soil acidification causes soil reserves of nutrients to decrease. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Behaviour of Pine Sawflies in Relation to Pheromone-Based Pest Management

    Författare :Fredrik Östrand; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Animal ecology; effective sampling area; mark-release-recapture; climate; longevity; sampling range; Symphyta; Hymenoptera; monitoring; dispersal; polyandry; mating disruption; integrated pest management; behaviour; sex pheromone; Neodiprion sertifer; Diprionidae; Djurekologi; Zoology; Zoologi; Silviculture; forestry; forestry technology; Skogsvetenskap; skogsbruk; skogsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Pine sawflies (Hymenoptera: Diprionidae) are severe pine defoliators. This thesis investigated sawfly behaviour related to the use of pheromones in integrated pest management, including monitoring with pheromone traps and mating disruption. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Carbon Balance Implications of Forest Biomass Production Potential

    Författare :Bishnu Chandra Poudel; Inga Carlman; Johan Bergh; Thomas Lundmark; Roger Sathre; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; forest management; silviculture; clear-cut forestry; continuous-cover forestry; substitution; total carbon; climate benefit; climate change; Forestry and Wood Technology; Skog och träteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Forests in boreal and temperate forest-ecosystems have importance for carbonbalance since they sequester large amount of atmospheric carbon by uptake ofcarbon-dioxide during photosynthesis, and transfer and store carbon in the forestecosystem. Forest material can be used for bio-fuel purposes and substitute fossilfuels, and supply wood products, which can replace carbon-and-energy-intensivematerials. LÄS MER
