  1. 1. Analysis of Two Transcriptional Regulators that Affect Meristem Function : Arabidopsis thaliana TERMINAL FLOWER2 and Picea abies APETELA2

    Författare :Lars Nilsson; Annika Sundås Larsson; Peter Engström; Thomas Laux; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Developmental biology; Arabidopsis thaliana; Picea abies; gene regulation; development; meristem; Utvecklingsbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aerial plant body is derived from undifferentiated cells in the shoot apical meristem that in Arabidopsis thaliana is active throughout the plant life cycle. Upon transition to flowering the activity of the meristem is altered and the meristem starts to produce secondary inflorescences and floral meristems instead of leaves. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Meristem Maintenance in Arabidopsis thaliana

    Författare :Alessia Para; Annika Sundås Larsson; Jan Traas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Life sciences and physical sciences; Arabidopsis thaliana; development; shoot apical meristem; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : The shoot apical meristem (SAM) is the structure that shapes the aerial architecture of the plant, by producing lateral organs throughout development. In the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana, the SAM is always identifiable as a characteristic dome, whether it is found in the centre of a rosette of leaves or at the tip of an inflorescence. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The Role of the Homeobox Gene ATHB16 in Development Regulation in Arabidopsis thaliana

    Författare :Yan Wang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Arabidopsis thaliana; Homeobox gene; Functional genomics; Plant development; ATHB16; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; fysiologisk botanik; Physiological Botany;

    Sammanfattning : There are 42 members of the homeodomain-leucine zipper (HDZip) family of transcription factors in Arabidopsis thaliana. This thesis focuses on the functional analysis of one member of this family, ATHB16, and on the biochemical properties of HDZip proteins. LÄS MER

  4. 4. To Bee or Not to Be : Critical Floral Resources of Wild-Bees

    Författare :Magnus Larsson; Anders L Nilsson; Jon Ågren; Björn Cederberg; James H Cane; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Ecology; Andrena hattorfiana; Andrena marginata; Andrenidae; Knautia arvensis; limitation; oligolecty; pollen; pollination; solitary bee; specialist bee; Succisa pratensis; Ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : In recent decades, the development of strategies to prevent or slow the loss of biodiversity has become an important task for ecologists. In most terrestrial ecosystems wild-bees play a key role as pollinators of herbs, shrubs and trees. The scope of this thesis was to study 1) pollinator effectiveness of specialist bees vs. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The Ecology of Floral Signals in Penstemon digitalis

    Författare :Rosalie Burdon; Amy L. Parachnowitsch; James Thomson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Antimicrobial; Bombus impatiens learning; indirect signal; multimodal; nectar; protandry; signal-reward association; Volatile Organic Compounds VOCs ; Biology with specialization in Ecological Botany; Biologi med inriktning mot ekologisk botanik;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I combined field observations and lab experiments to explore the ecological significance of floral signals in a North American wildflower, Penstemon digitalis. More specifically, to determine the potential mechanisms driving selection on floral scent, I studied how scent mediates interactions with pollinators and antagonists by (1) observing spatiotemporal variation in scent emission (2), floral volatile ability to suppress microbes (3) the honest advertisement of nectar, and (4) if scent could aid pollinator learning by reinforcing visual signals.
