  1. 1. Depressive Symptoms Among Adolescents and Young Adults : Psychometrics and the Influence of Family Environment, and Candidate Gene–environment Interactions

    Författare :Rebecka Keijser; Cecilia Åslund; Susanne Olofsdotter; Kent W. Nilsson; Mats Humble; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diathesis stress; differential susceptibility; early life stress; FKBP5; OXTR; parenting;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aims of this thesis were to evaluate the psychometric properties of a questionnaire designed to evaluate parenting styles, and to study how depressive symptoms among adolescents and young adults may vary depending on the family environment and candidate gene–environment interaction (cG×E).The study sample consisted of participants (born during 1997 or 1999), and their caregivers from the Survey of Adolescent Life in Västmanland Cohort Study. 2. 2. Alcohol Consumption: A Study of Genetic and Environmental Correlates with Focus on the Stress System

    Författare :Aniruddha Todkar; Erika Comasco; Anja Huizink; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Alcohol; ELS; maternal separation; gene-environment; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Early life stress (ELS) is associated with risk of excessive alcohol drinking. However, the genetic mechanisms underlying the susceptibility to excessive alcohol drinking are not well understood. DNA methylation may mediate the influence of ELS on gene function and thereby contribute to alcohol misuse. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Effects of immunosuppressive drugs on human adipose tissue metabolism

    Författare :Maria J Pereira; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cyclosporin A; tacrolimus; rapamycin; glucocorticoids; new onset diabetes after transplantation; adipocytes; insulin signalling; glucose uptake; lipolysis; lipogenesis;

    Sammanfattning : The immunosuppressive agents (IAs) rapamycin, cyclosporin A and tacrolimus, as well as glucocorticoids are used to prevent rejection of transplanted organs and to treat autoimmune disorders. Despite their desired action on the immune system, these agents have serious long-term metabolic side-effects, including dyslipidemia and new onset diabetes mellitus after transplantation. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Novel mechanisms of glucocorticoid-induced insulin resistance in human adipose tissue

    Författare :Cherno Omar Sidibeh; Jan Eriksson; Maria João Pereira; Anna Krook; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cannabinoid receptor type 1 fkbp51 dexamethasone type 2 diabetes adipocytes; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : The global prevalence of obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2D) is increasing. From a public health perspective, it is therefore of interest to identify common underlying mechanisms of these comorbidities. Glucocorticoids are steroid hormones that are important in stress regulation in mammals. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Genetic studies in mood disorders

    Författare :Magnus Lekman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Mood disorders, including bipolar disorder (BPD) and major depressive disorder (MDD), are highly complex psychiatric disorders. Decades of genetic studies have generated a large number of putative genetic susceptibility variants. However, with exception of CACNA1C, SYNE1 and ANK3 in BPD no robust association has as yet been identified. LÄS MER
