1. FGFs and Wnts in pancreatic growth and β-cell function
Sammanfattning : Mesenchymal-epithelial interactions are pivotal for proper pancreatic growth and development. The pancreatic progenitor cells present in the early pancreatic anlagen proliferate and eventually give rise to all pancreatic cell types. LÄS MER
2. Modern inhalation agents and effects of anaesthesia equipment during low-flow anaesthesia
Sammanfattning : Volatile agents are economically and ecologically acceptable only when administered via low-flow systems. However, sevoflurane degrades during low-flow anaesthesia to compound A, and a high carbon dioxide absorber temperature increases this degradation. LÄS MER
3. Heparan Sulfate Regulation of Fibroblast Growth Factor (FGF) Receptor-1 Signal Transduction
Sammanfattning : Fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) constitute a family (currently FGF-1 to FGF-23) of polypeptides that are essential in embryonal development and adult physiology, in animals from nematodes to humans. FGFs bind to four receptor tyrosine kinases, denoted FGFR-1 to FGFR-4. LÄS MER
4. Role of Heparan Sulfate Structure in FGF-Receptor Interactions and Signaling
Sammanfattning : Heparan sulfate (HS) belongs to the glycosaminoglycan family of polysaccharides and is found attached to protein cores on cell surfaces and in the extracellular matrix. The HS backbone consists of alternating hexuronic acid and glucosamine units and undergoes a number of modification reactions creating HS chains with alternating highly and low modified domains, where high degree of modification correlates with high negative charge. 5. Gene expression in human adipose tissue. Studies of leptin and genes selected by expression profiling
Sammanfattning : Obesity, and in particular the amount of visceral adipose tissue, is correlated to development of type 2diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The aim of this thesis was to study genes expressed in humanadipose tissue that could be involved in regional adipose tissue homeostasis and/or obesity-associateddisease. LÄS MER
