21. The role of fibroblast growth factor-23 in chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder
Sammanfattning : Fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF23) was initially identified as the causative factor of autosomal dominant hypophosphatemic rickets. Further studies confirmed that FGF23 is predominantly expressed in the osteocytes and osteoblasts of bone and that circulating FGF23 acts on the kidney to inhibit renal phosphate reabsorption and 1,25(OH)2D3 hydroxylation. 22. Role of Heparan Sulfate Structure in FGF-Receptor Interactions and Signaling
Sammanfattning : Heparan sulfate (HS) belongs to the glycosaminoglycan family of polysaccharides and is found attached to protein cores on cell surfaces and in the extracellular matrix. The HS backbone consists of alternating hexuronic acid and glucosamine units and undergoes a number of modification reactions creating HS chains with alternating highly and low modified domains, where high degree of modification correlates with high negative charge. 23. Gene Expression in mESC Deficient in FGFR Signalling and the Identification of the Novel Gene Ened
Sammanfattning : Embryonic stem cells (ESCs) are derived from the inner cell mass (ICM) of blastocyst stage embryos, and upon differentiation into embryoid bodies (EBs) they recapitulate the genetic, cellular and morphological events occurring in early embryogenesis. Among several signalling pathways and inductive factors, the fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) and their receptors (FGFRs) have been shown to be important during early embryogenesis. LÄS MER
24. Studies on the phenotype and function of osteoclasts using osteopetrotic and rachitic animal models
Sammanfattning : Osteoclasts are multinucleated bone-resorbing cells that have been implicated in a variety of skeletal diseases e.g. osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis and skeletal metastasis. Under physiological conditions, the osteoclast participates in ossification during longitudinal bone growth as well as in bone remodelling during adulthood. LÄS MER
25. Collateral development in limb ischemia : aspects of endogenous and stimulated arteriogenesis
Sammanfattning : Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is common among elderly and affects about 20% of the population above the age of 60 years. PAD is a strong marker for future cardiovascular events and increased mortality due to widespread atherosclerotic lesions in the coronary and cerebral arteries. LÄS MER
