  1. 1. Heparan Sulfate Regulation of Fibroblast Growth Factor (FGF) Receptor-1 Signal Transduction

    Författare :Lars Lundin; Lena Claesson-Welsh; Marco Presta; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pathology; FGF; FGFR; dimerisation; signal transduction; heparan sulfate; proteoglycan; heparin; VEGF; embryonal stem cell; endothelial cell; differentiation; Patologi; Pathology; Patologi;

    Sammanfattning : Fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) constitute a family (currently FGF-1 to FGF-23) of polypeptides that are essential in embryonal development and adult physiology, in animals from nematodes to humans. FGFs bind to four receptor tyrosine kinases, denoted FGFR-1 to FGFR-4. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptor-1 Function in Vasculo- and Angiogenesis

    Författare :Peetra Magnusson; Lena Claesson-Welsh; Anne Eichmann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pathology; FGF; FGFR-1; VEGFR-2; PDGFR-β; endothelial cells; embryonic stem cell; angiogenesis; hematopoiesis; Patologi; Pathology; Patologi;

    Sammanfattning : During development of the mammalian embryo, spatial and temporal expression of fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) and their cognate receptors are vital in the regulation of a number of patterning processes. Inappropriate or decreased expression leads to severe malformations and even embryonic death. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The Roles of Growth Factor Interactions and Mechanical Tension in Angiogenesis

    Författare :Ludvig Petersson; Pär Gerwins; Filip Farnebo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :angiogenesis; myofibroblast; wound healing; VEGF; FGF; PDGF; endocan; endothelial cell; vascularization; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels from preexisting ones through creation of new vessel branch points by sprouting or vessel splitting, is an important part of tissue growth in both physiological processes like wound healing and pathological conditions such as cancer. Growth factors like VEGF-A, FGF-2 and PDGF-BB are involved in both types of angiogenesis. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Gene expression studies of pregastrulation development: the basement membrane is essential for cell differentiation

    Författare :Mikael Åkerlund; Muskelbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; muscular dystrophy; development; Basement membrane; laminin; stem cells; FGF;

    Sammanfattning : Basement membranes (BMs) are sheet-like structures of extracellular matrix. They act as a supporting structure but can also significantly influence cellular behavior in development, tissue homeostasis and disease. Laminins, a major BM component, are multidomain proteins, consisting of three polypeptide chains (α, β and γ). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Role of Heparan Sulfate Structure in FGF-Receptor Interactions and Signaling

    Författare :Nadja Jastrebova; Dorothe Spillmann; Ulf Lindahl; John T. Gallagher; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Biochemistry; heparan sulfate; oligosaccharide; fibroblast growth factor; fibroblast growth factor signaling; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Heparan sulfate (HS) belongs to the glycosaminoglycan family of polysaccharides and is found attached to protein cores on cell surfaces and in the extracellular matrix. The HS backbone consists of alternating hexuronic acid and glucosamine units and undergoes a number of modification reactions creating HS chains with alternating highly and low modified domains, where high degree of modification correlates with high negative charge.
