  1. 21. Power Consumption and Joint Signal Processing in Fiber-Optical Communication

    Författare :Lars Lundberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; coherent detection; erbium-doped fiber amplifier; phase-tracking; optical amplifier; optical frequency comb; digital signal processing; carrier-recovery; spatial division multiplexing; power consumption; Fiber-optical communication; multicore fiber; Raman amplification; energy-efficiency;

    Sammanfattning : The power consumption of coherent fiber-optical communication systems is becoming increasingly important, for both environmental and economic reasons. The data traffic on the Internet is increasing at a faster pace than that at which optical network equipment is becoming more energy efficient, which means that the overall power consumption of the Internet is increasing. 2. 22. Long term health-related quality of life among women with high-risk breast cancer receiving adjuvant high-dose chemotherapy : a comparison with the normal population

    Författare :Helena Michelson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Adjuvant high-dose chemotherapy; health related quality of life; EORTC QLQC30; reference values; chronic health problems.;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of the thesis were 1) to provide reference values for the EORTC QLQ-C30 in the general Swedish population, 2) to investigate effects of adjuvant high-dose treatment on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among high-risk breast cancer patients during and after treatment and 3) to investigate differences in HRQoL between the patients and women of corresponding age in the general population. The EORTC QLQ-C30 questionnaire was mailed to a sample of 4008 randomly selected individuals in the Swedish population. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Collective behavior of disordered magnetic systems

    Författare :Tomas Jonsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials science; Materialvetenskap; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Solid State Physics; fasta tillståndets fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Magnetic properties of disordered and frustrated magnets have been experimentally investigated. The magnetic systems in focus in this work are spin-glasses and frozen ferrofluids (suspensions of nano-sized magnetic particles). LÄS MER

  4. 24. Development of the read-out link and control board for the ATLAS Tile Calorimeter Upgrade

    Författare :Eduardo Valdés Santurio; Samuel Bryant Silverstein; Costas Foudas; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; HL-LHC; ATLAS; Tile Calorimeter; TileCal; Demonstrator; Daughterboard; Read-out; Digital electronics; Data acquisition; Radiation tolerant; GBTx; TID; NIEL; SEU; SEL; FPGA; Kintex 7; Ultrascale; Ultrascale ; Optic Links; fysik; Physics;

    Sammanfattning : The Phase-II upgrade plan for the ATLAS Hadronic Tile Calorimeter facing the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) era includes approximately 1000 radiation tolerant read-out link and control boards (Daughterboards) that will provide full-granularity digital data to a fully-digital trigger system off-detector through multi-Gbps optic fibres. Different Daughterboard (DB) revisions have been developed, each successively aiming to meet the demanding HL-LHC requirements. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Exploring Cancer Drugs In Vitro and In Vivo : With Special Reference to Chemosensitivity Testing and Early Clinical Development

    Författare :Anne von Heideman; Peter Nygren; Bengt Tholander; Rolf Larsson; Seija Grénman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cytotoxic drug; in vitro assay; drug development; phase I clinical trial; Oncology; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis were to investigate the utility of in vitro drug sensitivity testing to optimize the use of cancer chemotherapy and to assess the properties of a new cancer drug in a phase I clinical trial. Tumour cells from patients were analysed with the short-term Fluorometric Microculture Cytotoxicity Assay (FMCA). LÄS MER
