For example, after Breivik’s massacre, intolerance toward Muslims was intensely debated (for good reasons). Sammanfattning : This thesis identifies and describes the diversity aspects of police discourse based on the accounts of police trainees in their final year. Specifically, the focus is on culture, religion and ethnicity, and four main questions are addressed: What is said about diversity? How is it articulated? What subject positions are offered and assumed? In what ways are discourses of diversity sustained and challenged?The analysis of discourse in use is based on field studies conducted at the Swedish National Police Academy and focus group interviews with police trainees in the educational setting and during their trainee placement period. 3. Blaming victims of rape : Studies on rape myths and beliefs about rape
Sammanfattning : Rape is a crime characterized by low reporting and conviction rates. Many victims who do report, drop out during the justice process. This is a problem both for the victims themselves and for the legal certainty of societies. One explanation for low reporting rates is victims’ justified fear of being badly treated, mistrusted, and blamed. LÄS MER
4. Medier och identitet : i gymnasisters mångkulturella vardag
Sammanfattning : This partial study, being part of a future doctorial thesis, looks at the potential of education in the subject of literature to integrate the dual tasks of providing knowledge and of establishing democratic values. Two aspects of this competence for democracy are in focus here, both attributed with special importance by guiding documents, first of all to instil within the students a basic positive attitude towards a multicultural society and secondly to develop their ability for critical review of their own media culture as a source of knowledge. 5. Higher education and the evolution of prejudice
Sammanfattning : Background: This dissertation looks at the effect of higher education on prejudice, in particular anti-immigrant sentiment. In studies of prejudice, higher education is constantly shown to correlate to lower levels of prejudice, the so-called “liberalizing effect of education,” yet we do not fully understand to what extent education matters for these attitudes.
