CD can develop at any age and the worldwide prevalence of this condition is approaching 1%. The only available treatment today is a life-long gluten free diet. LÄS MER
2. Amblyopia and subnormal visual acuity. Studies of prevalence, assessment and outcome
Sammanfattning : Aims. The aims of this thesis were threefold. Firstly, we wanted to establish the distribution of visual acuity (VA) and the prevalence of amblyopia and other ocular disorders in two population-based samples of 12-13-year-old children, one that had been vision-screened at preschool age and the other that had not. 3. Occupational exposure to electromagnetic fields and chronic diseases
Sammanfattning : This thesis consider two exposures from the electromagnetic spectrum extremely low-frequency magnetic fields (ELF MF) and ultraviolet (UV) radiation. ELF MF are the lowest and UV radiation ranges among the highest frequencies of non-ionizing radiation. The exposure prevalence of these fields is high in the general population. LÄS MER
4. Towards a broader use of phototesting : in research, clinical practice and skin cancer prevention
Sammanfattning : In western societies, skin cancer incidence has increased dramatically over recent decades, due predominantly to increased sun exposure habits. Ultraviolet (UV) light exposure and individual light sensitivity of the skin constitute two important factors affecting the risk for skin cancer development. LÄS MER
5. Laminins and alpha11 integrin in the human eye : importance in development and disease
Sammanfattning : The extracellular matrix (ECM) offers a protective shelter for cells and provides signaling paths important for cell to cell communication. ECM consists of basement membranes (BM) and interstitial matrix. BMs provide mechanical support for parenchymal cells, influence cell proliferation, survival, migration and differentiation. LÄS MER
