21. Monitoring of extracellular substances after spontaneous and experimental subarachnoid hemorrhage
Sammanfattning : Even though survival is considerably enhanced after surgical treatment of an aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), there is a critical period, which keeps the patient in intensive care for days or even weeks. Complications, such as vasospasm, ischemia and brain edema ultimately lead to further brain damage. LÄS MER
22. Cellular and Molecular Responses to Traumatic Brain Injury
Sammanfattning : Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a relatively unknown disease considering the tens of millions of people affected around the world each year. Many TBI patients die from their injuries and survivors often suffer from life-long disabilities. LÄS MER
23. On the pathophysiology of idiopathic adult hydrosephalus syndrome : energy metabolism, protein patterns, and intracranial pressure
Sammanfattning : The symptoms in Idiopathic Adult Hydrocephalus Syndrome (IAHS) – gait disturbance, incontinence, and cognitive deficit – correlate anatomically to neuronal dysfunction in periventricular white matter. The pathophysiology is considered to include a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) hydrodynamic disturbance, including pressure oscillations (“B waves”), in combination with cerebrovascular disease. LÄS MER
24. Perinatal brain injury - markers and mediators. Non-protein-bound iron and pro-inflammatory cytokines in newborn infants and neonatal pigs
Sammanfattning : Two groups of newborn infants have an increased risk for perinatal brain injury; preterm infants and term infants subjected to birth asphyxia. Experimental studies indicate that hypoxic-ischemic insults in the perinatal period initiate a secondary neurotoxic cascade including formation of toxic reactive oxygen species as well as an inflammatory response with elevated levels of potentially neurotoxic cytokines. 25. Clusterin in brain and cerebrospinal fluidin Alzheimer s disease
Sammanfattning : The apolipoprotein clusterin is suggested to be involved in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer¡¦s disease (AD). At the start of these studies, results had indicated that clusterin was elevated in AD brain, compared with controls. LÄS MER
