1. Order in Strongly Correlated Quasi-One-Dimensional Systems : Solving Higher-Dimensional Systems Combining Matrix-Product-State Methods and Mean-Field Theory
Sammanfattning : Since their discovery the understanding of unconventional superconductors (USCs) has posed a great challenge in condensed matter physics. One central problem, both of theory and experiment, lies in determining the microscopic origin of electron pairing in such systems. LÄS MER
2. Education and the Family : Essays in Empirical Labour Economics
Sammanfattning : Estimating Long-Term Consequences of Teenage Childbearing: An Examination of the Siblings Approach In the study of the consequences of teenage motherhood, the siblings approach has been proposed as a strategy to control for unobserved family background. Revisiting this literature, my contribution in adopting the siblings approach lies in controlling for heterogeneity within the family by using pre-motherhood school performance, a characteristic that differs across sisters. 3. Mapping Genes Affecting Phenotypic Traits in Chicken
Sammanfattning : The purpose of gene mapping is to understand the underlying genetics of simple and complex traits like plumage colour and growth. This thesis is based on a cross between the wild ancestor of the modern chicken, the red junglefowl, and a White Leghorn line selected for high egg mass. LÄS MER
4. Regional cooperation organizations in a multipolar world. Comparing the Baltic and the Black Sea regions
Sammanfattning : This dissertation analyses the phenomenon of regionalism around the Baltic and the Black Sea since the end of the Cold War with a comparative approach and by applying an extended neorealist theory that includes geopolitics and historical legacy. The main focus is regional organizations, the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) and the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC), which defines the geographical and political borders of the Baltic and the Black Sea region. 5. Detailed Soot Modelling in Laminar and Turbulent Reacting Flows
Sammanfattning : In the present work a detailed kinetic soot model is applied to study the formation and oxidation of soot particles in laminar premixed and turbulent non-premixed flames. The soot model used in this study is based on a detailed description of the chemical and physical processes involved in the formation of soot. LÄS MER
