  1. 16. Screening for Candidate Brain Tumor Genes : Identifying Genes that Cooperate with Platelet-Derived Growth Factor in Glioma Development and Progression

    Författare :Fredrik Johansson; Bengt Westermark; Leif Carlsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Pathology; PDGF; insertional mutagenesis; retroviral tagging; common insertion site; glioma; expression; cGMP-dependent protein kinase II; Patologi;

    Sammanfattning : Malignant primary brain tumors, gliomas, often overexpress both platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) ligands and receptors providing an autocrine and/or paracrine boost to tumor growth. Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most frequent glioma. Its aggressive and infiltrative growth renders it extremely difficult to treat. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Molecular Genetic and DNA Methylation Profiling of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia : A Focus on Divergent Prognostic Subgroups and Subsets

    Författare :Nicola Cahill; Richard Rosenquist; Larry Mansouri; Fergus Ryan; Denis Alexander; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; DNA methylation; Chronic lymphocytic leukemia; SNP; array; IGHV3-21; IGHV4-34; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylärbiologi; Genetics; Genetik; Medical Genetics; Medicinsk genetik; Molecular Biology; Molekylärbiologi; Molekylär genetik; Molecular Genetics; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : Advancements in prognostication have improved the subdivision of chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) into diverse prognostic subgroups. In CLL, IGHV unmutated and IGHV3-21 genes are associated with a poor-prognosis, conversely, IGHV mutated genes with a favourable outcome. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Methods for Analyzing Genomes

    Författare :Patrik L. Ståhl; Joakim Lundeberg; Ivo Gut; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; array; sequence capture; genotyping; trinucleotide threading; sequencing; massively parallel sequencing; single molecule sequencing; Visual DNA; p53; single nucleotide polymorphism; biomarker; Genetics; Genetik;

    Sammanfattning : The human genome reference sequence has given us a two‐dimensional blueprint of our inherited code of life, but we need to employ modern‐day technology to expand our knowledge into a third dimension. Inter‐individual and intra‐individual variation has been shown to be larger than anticipated, and the mode of genetic regulation more complex. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Development and Application of Human Chromosome 22 Genomic Microarray : Chromosome 22-Associated Disorders Analyzed by Array-Based Comparative Genomic Hybridization

    Författare :Magdalena Benetkiewicz; Jan Dumanski; Niklas Dahl; Frank Speleman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular genetics; DNA copy number changes; chromosome 22; genomic microarray; array-CGH; schwannoma; neurofibromatosis type 2; ovarian carcinoma; breast cancer; Wilms tumor; Genetik; Genetics; Genetik;

    Sammanfattning : The array-based form of comparative genomic hybridization (array-CGH) is a new methodology that has shown to be of significant importance. This thesis focuses on the development of array-CGH with the aim to define candidate regions/genes on chromosome 22 in a wide spectrum of cancer-related conditions. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Alcohol and gene expression in nerve cells with emphasis on transcription factor AP-1

    Författare :Ulrik Fried; Institutionen för laboratoriemedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nerve cells; SH-SY5Y; muscarinic receptors; MAPKs; PKC; gene expression; jun; Activating Protein-1; Alcohol; ethanol; CRABP-I; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Alcohol induces profound effects on the function of the nerve cells in the nervous system. Alterations in gene expression is an important way by which these effects could be induced and sustained. Activating Protein-1 (AP-1) is a dimeric transcription factor constituted of proteins from the fos and jun immediate-early gene families. LÄS MER
