6. On the Application of the Bootstrap : Coefficient of Variation, Contingency Table, Information Theory and Ranked Set Sampling
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the bootstrap method. Three decades after the seminal paper by Bradly Efron, still the horizons of this method need more exploration. The research presented herein has stepped into different fields of statistics where the bootstrap method can be utilized as a fundamental statistical tool in almost any application. LÄS MER
7. Properties and evaluation of volatility models
Sammanfattning : The general theme of this thesis is theoretical properties and evaluation of volatility models. The thesis consists of four papers. In the first chapter the moment structure of the EGARCH model is derived. The second chapter contains new results on the A-PARCH model. LÄS MER
8. Optimal stopping, incomplete information, and stochastic games
Sammanfattning : This thesis contains six papers on the topics of optimal stopping and stochastic games. Paper I extends the classical Bayesian sequential testing and detection problems for a Brownian motion to higher dimensions. We demonstrate unilateral concavity of the cost function and present its structural properties through various examples. LÄS MER
9. Analytical Approximations for Bayesian Inference
Sammanfattning : Bayesian inference is a statistical inference technique in which Bayes’ theorem is used to update the probability distribution of a random variable using observations. Except for few simple cases, expression of such probability distributions using compact analytical expressions is infeasible. LÄS MER
10. Transcription regulation and growth phase transition in hyperthermoacidophilic archaea
Sammanfattning : Organisms from the domain Archaea are ubiquitously represented on our planet and encompass diverse fascinating organisms. The genus Sulfolobus belonging to the phylum Crenarchaeota including hyperthermoacidophilic strains that grow optimally at 65-85°C and pH 2-3. LÄS MER
