21. Assessment of pancreatic islet cell function and survival
Sammanfattning : Function and survival of pancreatic islet insulin-producing beta-cells (β-cells) and glucagonproducing alpha-cells (α-cells) were studied, and methods for this purpose were developed or refined. Dynamic control of glucose metabolism is essential for β-cell stimulus-secretion coupling. LÄS MER
22. Neurocognitive function following out-of-hospital cardiac arrest
Sammanfattning : Background: The brain is susceptible to hypoxic-ischemic brain injury in conjuction with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). Cognitive impairments are documented in about half of all OHCA survivors, however with a pronounced heterogeneity in measurements and findings. LÄS MER
23. Cognitive function after cardiac arest and targeted temperature management
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on cognitive impairment in Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA) survivors with the main aim to evaluate possible effects by targeted temperature management. Secondary aims are to describe the prevalence of cognitive impairment in a large group of OHCA-survivors, the related symptoms of psychological distress and the actual effect of cognitive impairment for the patient’s ability to participate in everyday life and in the society (as work). 24. Long-term Outcome of Cognitive and Emotional Functioning in Young People with ADHD
Sammanfattning : Clarification on how cognitive, executive and emotional functioning contribute to symptom reduction or improved function in childhood attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is needed to find additional treatment methods. The clinical utility of continuous performance test (CPT) (Conners’ CPT-II, QbTest) to complement rating scales in diagnostic assessments and treatment evaluations (QbTest) was examined using one dataset from clinical records of 118 treatment-seeking youth (ADHD, n = 80; non-ADHD, n = 38) (diagnostic) and one dataset of 56 youth treated for ADHD (treatment evaluation) (Paper I). 25. Train your brain : updating, transfer, and neural changes
Sammanfattning : An initial aim of this thesis was to determine whether training of a specific executive function (updating) produces improvements in performance on trained and transfer tasks, and whether the effects are maintained over time. Neural systems underlying training and transfer effects were also investigated and one question considered is whether transfer depends on general or specific neural overlap between training and transfer tasks.
